Hi, Im new to this board and couldnt decide wich thread to post in, Sorry if its the wrong 1. Anyway Iv got a film, its an .avi and the sound is .ac3(0x2000) - 448Kb/s (5 ch) CBR. So i run the sound through goldwave and get a .wave file(same length as avi, Sounds good), Then I run my avi and my wave file through TMPGEnc and get a mpg and a .wav(Still the same length, Sounds good) Then I run the lot through tmpgenc dvd-author and iv got my vobfiles, When i play it though the sound is out of sync Im dieing to watch the film mentioned on my telly so if any1 could shed some light on this it would be much appreciated

If the sound is ahead of the video, then in Goldwav click on Edit>Insert Silence. Add the appropriate amount of silence to the beginning of the audio file. If the video is ahead of the audio, then cut the appropriate amount from the beginning. It can be surprisingly difficult to determine the right amount to add/cut (trial and error), so you're better off figuring out what's causing the loss of sync. I'm not familiar with TMPGEnc DVD Author so I can't help you there.

Is the sound out of synch on your computer or on your set-top player or both ?

Also, you can add the m2v file and the MP2 file seperately in TMPGEnc DVD author and it will multiplex for you. May want to try that, elementary streams, or have Goldwave change to an MP2 file instead of wav.

I've had trouble with audio out of sync on a number of programs. I'm now using TMPGEnc DVD Author because I've found a way to fix it.

Does the sound start out in sync and then start getting out of sync around 25-35 minutes into the video? If that's what's happening then my solution was to load the video into DVD Author and set the end point at 15-20 minutes. Then load the same file in and set the start point exactly where you put the end point the first time. Set another end point around 15-20 minutes. Repeat that until you've got the entire video in- then create the DVD.

Well the sounds out of sync all the way through from the start and its on my player cos i burnt it str8 away without checking the first time, then i tried playing the vob files with power-dvd the 2nd time and it was still buggered Another thing is how can i check its in sync when it's m2v+wav cos its 2 seperate files (both the same length), anyway ill try makin it into and mp2 audio and then try that multiplexing thing, hope it works as its 1 big film and iv alredy lost 2 many hours of my life(and hdd space) trying to do it,lol. cheers for all the advice guys, hopefully 1 of these solution will work 4 me

Two things- first, you can try to run the avi through TBMPGEnc and outputting a system file (mpg) instead of m2v +wav. Then load that into TMPGEnc DVD Author and try it.

To check the sync before you burn it, load the file(s) (either the system file from above or the m2v + wav) into TMPGEnc DVD Author, then click on the 'Create Menu' button. Click 'Display Menu Settings' and 'Chapter Display'. Double click on any chapter and it will open up a window where you can play any part of the video. I know that works when using a single mpg file- don't know if it'll work with m2v+wav but I would guess that it should.

If the sound is in sync in that play window but gets out of sync when you compile the vob's then see my post above about using segments of 20 minutes or less.

Why not just use the ac3 file as your sound source in tmpg dvd author?

I think tmpgenc can work with the ac3, but am not sure. If you still have the avi, load it into tmpgenc and covert to a mpg file (system- 1 file with both audio and video).

If you don't have the avi then try Johns0 suggestion and load the ac3 into DVD Author along with the m2v- or try that first and see if the audio is in sync using the menu editor.

iv still got avi. I forgot to mention that i ran the ac3 through tmpgenc and it came out as silence even though it was a normal sized file for a dvd .wav. This ac3 sound is a nightmare 2 deal with, is there some reason for alot of the highest quality rips being in ac3? as iv noticed most are ch5 wich i assume is like dolby 5.1 or summat. Il try all these suggestions 2morrow cos now iv got another film thats ac3 aswell, cheers
