The short answer ... most likely NOT.

Some DVD players (but very few) will downmix the DTS into normal 2 channel stereo sound that you can output through the regular LEFT(WHITE)/RIGHT(RED) RCA STEREO jacks.

My Cyberhome CH-DVD 500 does this.

But like I said very few stand alone DVD players do this which is why all DTS DVD discs also have AC-3 audio as a back-up for those that don't have DTS capabilities since the official DVD spec does not REQUIRE DTS support.

  4. It probably should be pointed out too that, if you do have a DVD player that downmixes the DTS signal... that's exactly what it's doing, downmixing from 6 channels to 2 channels. So even though you're hearing sound, it's no longer DTS.

That's correct I forgot about that but I assume if the person who originated this thread didn't have a receiver with digital inputs they didn't have a receiver with 6 channel inputs.

  7. I have a Player with 6 analog outputs. (StarMedia) AC3 and DTS
I use an Onkyo Reciever for Front L/R and Back L/R
An old HiFi Amp for the center Box and and a
    Powered Subwoofer.

Works a treat and although I didn't expect much for the cheap price the onboard 6 channel preamps are excellent !
