I need some suggestions for a printer to print my dvd covers. I currently use an HP Deskjet 960c, but my problem is the printer won't print the last 0.5 inch of the cover. That makes for a white area that ruins the cover once cut out to fit the DVD case. Anyone know of any printers that print almost edge to edge so I don't have to deal with this?

  2. Simple:

Pick up some 8 1/2 x 14 paper. Set in the printer setting of the program to use 8 1/2 x 14. instead of 8 1/2 x 11 It also known as legal size.

I've thought of that, but I prefer to use Multi-project photo paper from Hammermill. The quality is that much better and I can get it very cheap. Going to legal paper is my last resort, but only if I can't find a printer that can print on this photo paper. Maybe I can find some legal size photo paper...

  5. The Canon i series can print borderless photos, and is great for DVD covers on standard size paper. I have two Canon i550's and cam print a full size DVD insert with no problems.

A4 size is also a very good size.

  7. When I used to do full size cases I used Kodak 14" long glossy. Had good results.

Since I went over to thinPak cases can use std 8 1/2 x 11 and tell the epson to go max. Prints well every time. Else got to break out a very big printer.

  8. I use CorelDraw to set up printing of the DVD covers.

I set the page size for the printer to 8 1/2 X 14 but only put 8 1/2" x 11 in the printer.

I do a print preview in CorelDraw and align the printout as close to the margin as possible. When I print, the image starts about 1/8" from the edge of the paper and finishes on the 8 1/2" x 11...no problem. By specifying 8 1/2 X 14, it just tricks the printer in thinking that the margins are a little bigger on the length. Since most DVD covers are a little less than 11", they always fit.

This may be possible in other programs if you can specify printing to 8 1/2" X 14" and place the image anywhere on the page you want prior to printing.

Does anyone know where to get some cheap photo paper (doesn't have to be the best, just a glossy finish) that is 8.5 x 14? And is it true that the Epson CX5200 can print borderless prints on a 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper? If so, I think I may go that route because I need a scanner anyway and I'm pressed for disk space...

Well, if you are set to get a new printer, I would get an Epson 900, or 950/960, or the new model that prints onto disks. They will do borderless printing, and print to inkjet printable disks. The 950/960 and new model offer individual ink tanks for easier replacement, but the tanks do have that evil chip in them. I wouldn't get a combo machine for any serious work. You might be better off with a really cheap scanner than a combo printer/scanner. Just my 2 cents.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

Why go to all the trouble of printing on paper the exact size that is going to be more expensive.
Better off buying A4 size photo glossy paper which is a standard size that all manafactures do cheap.
All you got to do then is cut it to size, no worries about printing to the edge of the paper or the paper being out of line and it printing inside the printer so the next sheet picks up the ink inside...
    Not bothered by small problems...

I've thought about getting A4 glossy paper, but I can't find it cheap where I'm at. I do have a decent scanner, but the printer is my downfall. I guess I could get the new Epson 950/960 because I could see myself printing onto DVDs and CDs sometime in the near future. But until I decide to pony up for one, where can I find cheap A4 glossy paper?
