Wow, then that means it is 4X media. Definitely a great deal for local pickup! 8)

Yeah, those shipping charges make me miss living in Denver. There was a Microcenter and a PC Club and they have both been running good deals on 4X DVD-R in the months since I left

  6. Just checked their online ad:

Looks like maybe only +R for walk-in business

  7. I was just at the Microcenter located in Troy Michigan and the dvd-r's are marked $14.99 on the package, however, when they scan they scan at $5.99 for the 5 pack. If you look on their website under media you will find them priced at $5.99. In addition, when I got them home I checked right away what they were and they were 4x ritek g04 media. This is a great price for a local store pickup on great media. I picked up 3 packs but might go back for some more.

Just a heads up to anybody looking for some media.

  8. No Microcenter here in Reno, Nevada for me however I did notice that CompUSA is selling their brand DVD-R for $6.95 for a 10 pack. These discs burn at 2x on the Sony DRU500ax but only 1x on the Pioneer 105.

    TDK ???

Since when does TDK use Ritek media relabeled?

I thouht TDK made their own DVD media?

Is Ritek taking over OR are these not really TDK brand DVD discs?

I picked up 25 for $31.18 out the door. They are Ritek purple. I'll let ya'll know tomarrow night how they do (got commitments tonight and nothing to backup LMAO!!!). The Indianna Jones Trilogy is on blowout saleprice at a local video place, so I'm going to drop 34.95 for all 3 movies (don't ask me how he does it, he won't tell me either, members only price, limited quantities).

Even at 2x Riteks, this is still a good deal. Meritline's shipping is so outrageous for what you order.

I have 2 stores in my area, both empty with none in stock. One employee told me he couldn't understand the demand and I told him if there were anymore in the back I'd tell him. Got 7 more packs after I said they were Ritek 4x not 2x ( he knew what I meant, scary ) and split the last 14 packs with me!!! That's 60 for me, which is more DVD's than I plan on buying anytime soon, they are on the shelf next to the 48x 200+ CDR's I got left from a Best Buy closeout in May......

Does anyone know if stores carry the 5-packs and will match the prices? I went back today and got the last 10 packs they had.

    Thanks

  15. in the PA store, there is a bin full of 5-pk +R. There are a few -R left.
Most big chains will match price if you bring a local ad and the product is identical. Circuit city has the same-looking item on its web site but with a different manufacturer sku so I wonder if it is made by Ritek.

If you are looking for the real deal on Ritek, supermedia store has 10% off on all Ritek, G03 and G04. http://www.supermediastore.com/ritek-4xdvdr-fs.html

    Shipping is very reasonable too.

G03's are 100 pcs for 87.00 NOT INCLUDING the 10% off which brings the price even lower. Shipping is like $5.90. http://www.supermediastore.com/ritekdvdrblankmedia.html

I bought 100 pack of the matted surface G03 last week for $91.60 shipped ($84.60 + $7 shipping). This new price is even sweeter at $85.30 shipped ($78.30 + $7 shipping). I would order another 100 pack but I'm hoping that this decline in 2X media means 4X G04's are heading towards the sub $1 range and this 100 should hold me over until then 8)

Confirmed burn at 4.2x , about 11 minutes for a DVD5 iso burn.

The price is great in small quantities. Supermedia store shipping sucks unless you are buying 50+ ( it's the same for 15 as it is 100 pieces ).

where is the store in Troy? I didn't know about it. Do they have other deals as I was told my Piooner DVR-104 does not burn at 4x?

  20. from their web site:
    Madison Heights / Troy, Michigan
    32800 Concord Drive
    Madison Heights, MI 48071
    (Formerly the AMC Abbey Theater)

You can order online at microcenter.com and select in-store pickup. If the item is on stock, they will take them off the shelf and send you an email to come and pick up (and save a trip.)
You can use it in the 104 but it will be at 2x.

I got six packs of the TDK 2X DVD-R. Two of the packs identified as Ritek G04, the rest as the TDK 2X. I guess it's kind of a coin toss as to what you will get.

  24. Just picked up 15 packs at the Cleveland store (Mayfield Hts) - they had plenty left - I might head back for more.

Case says TDK DVD-R 2X, DVDInfo shows RITEKG04, code speed of 4x. Nero says it will burn at 4x, but don't have anything I need to burn right now to test these out...

New ones that came in for the sale are 4x. My luck for going to the home store, but I grabbed 3 off the shelf where they go, not the skid fo them at the checkout...doh! 3 packs are 2x, all the rest are 4x. It's all good....

  26. I bought 10 5 packs today of the DVD-R media and I put some in the drive and checked them and they are RitekG04.

Too bad I only have a 104 drive to burn them @ 2x. Oh well.

  27. couldn't you tell before you buy them? Aren't the TDK 2x labelled Made in Japan, and the Ritek Made in Taiwan?
I just wonder if this is the same a the 15 packs at Comp USA, I only bought the Made in Japan ones, and they were 2x. These are Maxell's I would guess, based on earlier reports, so, nothing against Ritek, but I would rather have better 2x media than G04's. (if the 2x is really better... never know what you're getting these days even from the major brands)

I know I should look, but is there an app that gives the media codes/media info for Mac OSX?

I think you are confusing TDK with FUJI.

With the FUJI brand the DVD-R discs marked MADE IN JAPAN are really 2x Taiyo-Yuden (the best damn media there is if you ask me). Some have reported that sometimes it is 4x Taiyo-Yuden but I've never gotten a pack like that nor have I ever seen 4x DVD-R branded as Taiyo-Yuden so I dunno about that ... sounds suspicsious.

The FUJI marked MADE IN TAIWAN have been the RITEK G03 discs.

There is a HUGE price difference with the MADE IN JAPAN and MADE IN TAIWAN FUJI DVD-R media mostly because I'm sure the Taiyo-Yuden discs cost more for FUJI plus it doesn't help that the Taiyo-Yuden are only made (by FUJI) in 10 packs with full size CD style jewel cases where as the cheaper RITEK G03 FUFI labeled discs only come in cake packs.

  29. Yes, I usually buy the Fuji's(the great TY's and the pretty good Riteks) so I know about them. But I was looking to find out who made the TDK's that are made in Japan, and there was a whole discussion on it a while back and it sound like they were Maxell's.
    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=165897&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&...20japan%20dvdr

So, it sounds like the Made Taiwan from TDK could be a few things, but the Made in Japan seem to be Maxell. When I got the 15 packs at Comp USA the had mostly the Taiwan's but still several Made in Japan's.
That's the 15 for $20.99 sale this week.

  30. DVD-R 5-pack officially on sale for $5.99 till 11/09. There are hundreds of them in PA store. All made in Taiwan (Ritek04).
