  1. I just got my Pioneer 105 exchanged to a 106 because of a failure.

My 105 ate almost anything u feed it with (even loafs of bread)

But my 106 seems to be a little picky.. its spits out my Princos and Datamart DVD-R - even at 2 speed burn - and its coasters. This only happen when i try to dvd burn.
    Anyone got any idea

    Nother question about setup.

1 got 1 250 Maxtor HD as main HD - 2x200 MB MAxtors on a raid controller (for storage) - and an asus DVD and my Pioneer 106

What would be the best cable setup for main hd and the 2 dvd's ?

    T.I.A.

  2. Have you updated the firmware? The latest firmware makes the 106 more compatable with cheap media.

Put your HD as Master on the Primary IDE channel, the 106 as Master on the Secondary IDE channel and the DVD drive as slave on the Secondary IDE channel. Make sure that DMA is enabled on all of them.

In Win XP Pro, go to Device Manager, select IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, select Primary IDE Channel, select Properties, then Advanced Settings. Make sure DMA If Available is set. Do the same on Secondary IDE Channel.

    DMA enabled.

Huh?? I'm using AMD processor with VIA chipset running XP Pro SP1 and in Device manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, I have 3 entries. They are Primary IDE Channel, Secondary IDE Channel and VIA Bus Master IDE Controller. I would expect yours to be identical except for the last one which would show your Intel controller instead of my VIA one.

The important bits are under the first two, not the chipset controller entry.

  9. I know what you mean - no prob there.
but om my first and second ide channels - there are no advanced tab - nd no place to set dma on or off - im using a MSI MB - and get Intel utility so i can watch alot of the stuff on thé MB - including ide channels - and it syas dma support in there - but no turn of or on ... so different types of ide controllers - different handeling i guess.

You must have the Intel IDE drivers installed. They automatically enable dma mode.
