Help with copying VIDEO_TS folder to dvd-r or +r

I have been making vcds for a couple of years, but I am very new to making dvds. I have done everything I could read on the forums and through friends advice. I have gotten the vobs ripped to the hard drive and they play beautifully, but when I try to make a data dvd, it doesn't work. I have tried the Sony software my drive came with and EZ CD Creator 5 Platinum and the Record Now Max demo. None of these programs makes a readable dvd. I am putting all the files in a folder titled video_ts and just moving the data to dvd-r or +r. Can anyone think of something I am doing wrong? I am going crazy!!

You should also create a folder called audio_ts and copy that to the dvd. The folder should be empty - it is often needed for compatability with some DVD players.

Most people soon abandon the software supplied with their burners. Probably for good reason.

Have you looked up how others do it in the guides? And what they use/recommend? Maybe a start to finish guide will help you get one working disc, then you can deviate from there, if you choose.

And - for a second post (above) that's a nice little tidbit of info. :c) Always include that folder as a "just in case" task. Takes 2 seconds.

And, as Foo said, the AUDIO_TS s/b all caps as well.

Do not ever use EZcd 5 or under on XP, it overwrites needed files on XP, btw, XP already uses ezcd aka Roxio

VOBs are not enough, you need IFOs, BUPs ...too

Yes, the computer reads it just fine.

No, I haven't tried the audio_ts folder, though I have thought about that.

As for the all caps. That's what I was told, but everytime I make it all caps, windows just makes it lower case again. How do I resolve this?

Just in case it's an issue, I am running Win98SE and a Fat32 drive.

Sounds strange but try Nero and its DVD-Video compilation, it creates the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders automatically use these settings http://dvdshrink.info/nero-video.php

Unfortunately, I don't have Nero, but one thing I forgot to say is, that even when I put in a regular playable dvd, it still shows the folder name in lower case as well. Why does this matter?

It has to be in caps because this is part of the DVD spec. Try this with W98: Start > Settings > Folder Options > View > Allow all uppercase names. You also should know that W98 uses the Fat32 file format that doesn't like individual files sizes of 4GB or more. But that doesn't seem to be your problem.

Nero can be downloaded for trial use too.

If you want to copy a DVDR (or a DVD5) just use DVD Decrypter ISO read-ISO write, no other tool necessary

If you have the VIDEO_TS (<4.37GB)on the HDD then make an ISO image with IMGTool Classic and burn the ISO with DVD Decrypter

Well, I've tried all caps, I've tried an AUDIO_TS directory, nothing works. I don't know what to do. I thought I was missing something, but according to you guys, I am not. I have heard that Record Now Max is the best for this, but it doesn't work. I will try to download the Nero demo at work where I have a T1 line, not at home on my 32000bps connection. Believe it or not!!
