  1. My brother asked me to make a backup of a DVD-movie for him. Lack of time made me just rip the DVD to my harddrive with dvdshrink - later he took the DVD with him again. This is a long time ago now. Now I finally found time (and new dvd-r media) to try to burn it.

I've realized that something weird might have happened to the video_ts files. I get a compliance test error in Nero - and when i try to play the dvd-files in PowerDVD, it plays the first "caution" clip....and then nothing happens. If i press "Play", the main movie starts. I never get to the menus.

Trying to reopen the files in dvdshrink (video_ts) and gets the error:

    Invalid DVD Navigation Structure.

So obviously something is wrong with the main video_ts files. But the rest (main movie, menus and extras) seem to be ok.

But how can I fix this so i can burn it? The video_ts files gotta work in order for the dvd to work properly right?

    Please help me

Sounds like the menus might be toast. If you were willing to settle for the movie only, you could create new ifo files in ifoedit or maybe DVDFab. This might get a playable version of the movie only. I would suggest making a copy your folder elsewhere in case this does not work. Good luck!

  3. Ive tried running IFOedit but frankly...the program is one big questionmark in my eyes, lol. I have no idea how to create new ifo files for the vobs etc.

I could settle with just having the movie itself tho - but cant i keep the subtitles (how?) ?

Fair to say Ifoedit is not the most intuative program! But is where I started way back when to burn DVD's. Now I use it only to fix problems.
If your willing petrucci, try this guide:
    http://users.pandora.be/rudy.stremersch/createifo.html

remember that after creating the ifos, close , reopen and open one of the ifo file. Click on the "Get VTS Sectors" and answers "yes" to corecting all ifo files. Click on save after you do this. Then try to play in something like Power DVD in the DVD on hard disk mode. If it plays, great! Burn! Otherwise, I'm lost!

    Good luck!

EDIT: I posted the wrong link the first time!! The one above should be right now! Sorry. Also, the get VTS Sectors:

  5. Go to the VIDEO_TS folder and delete any file with the extension .IFO or .BUP then In IFOEDIT select "Create IFOs" and load the first VOB,run.
You should then have a compliant DVD,then use DVDShrink to compress.

  7. Well, i tried making the new IFO files - and yeah now i can use DVDshrink to rip the main movie. BUT...in dvdshrink under "subpicture...all 3 subtitles are "unspecified".

After ripping it anyway, the movie starts fine in PowerDVD - but the english subtitles are blurry bold green now (pretty much unreadable and VERY ugly).

    How can i fix this?

There was a thread on that very recently. Try searching on this site for "green subtitles". You may find the answer before someone replies.

    It's here: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=176080&highlight=green+subtitles
    There's no place like 127.0.0.1

mmmm. What is the total size of the files in the VIDEO_TS folder? I am guessing over 4.36 or you would not be using shrink? Is it shrink that allows you to change subtitles under options, preferences, or something like that. Or Maybe that was DVDFab. Check the options, etc. Good luck

  10. No its below 4.3gb - when i try playing the video_ts.ifo file in the original dir - the green blurry subtitle appears as well.

Ive tried editing subtitle colors (hex) but i have no idea how to get a white subtitle with a black border. Can anyone help with that?
