  1. HELP!!!

Tried to play a SVCD on my Pioneer dv-535. The screen stays dark/blue. It says it´s playing a vcd but it doesn´t show any movie. Could someone please help me out? The movie has a swedish subtitle, could that be a problem? I have played vcd´s on it before without any problems what so ever...

    Kind regards,

    Matti, Karlstad, Sweden

Sounds like your player doesn't support SVCD's. Check out here:

for whether or not your player can do SVCD's.

Download and burn one of the SVCD test files.

Your SVCD may not be 100% complient, which is giving you player fits. The fact that it says VCD and not SVCD means it recognizes the CD, and that it has video....but it's not rendering it correctly.

Research 'VCD Header Trick', which is a way to fool some players into playing SVCDs. Alternately go spend $40 US on an Apex 1201 that plays anything........

  5. This may sound wierd, but try this:

Run a DVD movie in your player for 5-10 minutes. Let it build up some heat. Then play your SVCD. My Pioneer player has problems with (S)VCDs (and audio CDs) when cold.
