  1. I have suddenly developed a problem with trying to play MPEG files. Media player throws up the following errors with MPL loader:

1 The DLL "cpuinf32.dll can not be loaded

    2. The DLL mplapx.dll can not be loaded

Can anyone help as to how to reload these, why this might have happened and what is the MPL Loader.
    Take care

  2. I think I can help you out.

cpuinf.dll is a system shared library file that contains functions used to obtain information about the CPU such as CPU Speed and CPU ID

mplapx.dll is a system shared library file that contains functions used by Microsoft Media Player for audio playback

if you like, you can download both of these right here:

    http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/index.shtml

Depending on what version of Windows you are using, you should place these files in either the Windows\system or Windows\system32 (use the latter for WinXP and 2000)

I'm not sure what MPL loader is, but I suspect that it is a component of Windows Media Player (perhaps it is the Media PLayer Loader, don't know)

As to how this happened, have you installed any Ulead software, such as DVD Movie Factory, recently? I have heard that sometimes these software packages can cause the exact problem you are describing, and Ulead software is fairly common in your industry.
Apparently the Ulead installer tries to append the path to the .DLL in the system's PATH: statement, Restoring the proper PATH: to the .DLL should do the trick if dropping the DLLs manually into the Windows system folder doesn't, let me know if you can't find how to do it, being sure to tell me which version of Windows you are using (my email is under my profile if you want to correspond that way, it doesn't matter to me).

Also, I know that there are other applications out there that repackage these DLLs, I just don't know what they are

Anyway, I hope this helps, let me know how it goes,

  3. Hi Prospero,

Thank you very much for your help. It worked a treat and all is now back to normal. The odd thing is I do have Ulead DVD Workshop installed but this has worked fine for months untill the other day when it ceased to function. Since adding the two files this now works again. Doing a search for cpuinf32.dll thought it exists in both DVDXCopy and Fast studio purple programmes so maybe one of these caused the problem.

    Anyway thanks again
    Take care

  4. Thanks Prospero!! I had posted this problem at a couple of other sites, but had no luck until I looked here. Your advice fixed my problem as well.
