  1. I posted a request for help converting a PAL VHS tape (made during a vacation trip to Spain) to NTSC in the Capturing section and it disapeared. Did I post in the wrong place? I figured I was capturing Video fron a VHS tape to convert to a diferent format.
I tried capturing the PAL VHS with PCTV and them converting it to NTSC but it didn't work.
What can I do short of buying a PAL VCR?

First of all you need a VHS VCR that can play back a PAL format VHS video. Standard USA VHS VCRs are only capable of playing back NTSC. So you need a multisystem VHS VCR which can play both formats.

Now some multisystem VHS VCRs can do conversion but you DON'T want to do that. You will get better quality if you play the PAL VHS tape as PAL and capture it as PAL

You can then convert the PAL capture to NTSC while doing a MPEG2 DVD encode (or SVCD or VCD etc.)

The computer method of conversion is SLOW but it gives MUCH better results then doing the conversion with the VCR or even one of the more expensive stand alone "digital converter boxes"
