  1. I know this is a basic question and problem that I've seen numerous times but I think mine has a twist. I just got my DMR E-50 and recoreded a DVD. It plays fine on the Recorder but I can't get it to play anywhere else. I've tried my stand alone player, my computer and a friends DVD player that is less than 1 year old. The disk is not even recognized in any of these machines. The twist is that there is no option to "Finalize" the disk when I finished recording it like the manual said to do. When I go to "Disc Settings" Finalize is not even an option. Is the manual wrong? Is there some other place I can find it? Did the fact that I recorded the disk over a number of days cause the finalizing option to go away?

Did you record to a DVD-RAM disc? I don't think you finalize those discs, and they would only play on players that supported that format (so not only most anything else).

  3. When you record to DVD-R media you must finalize the disc in the E50 after the recording or it won't play in most players. If you record to DVD-RAM then you will need a DVD player or DVD drive that reads DVD-RAM and most don't. I have the E50 and all my DVD-R recordings play on my Sony, JVC, and Mintek players at home.
