Also depending on how old this dvd player is it may have compatibility problems with burned media....although it would have to be pretty danged old for that to be the problem.

Lots of old players won't read burned DVDs at all.

How is your old player failing?

Does it refuse to recognize the disk as valid?

Is RW media worse than R?

Are you using -R or +R? Some old players will only read -R. Some will not read +R unless it is booktyped.

Some writers allow you to booktype some do not. Nero 7 or later can be set to booktype DVD+R.

It is unlikely that Nero is your problem. Also unlikely to be your authoring software. Imgburn though a great package probably won't help you.

If I were to try to make it work, I'd look for ancient 4x TY DVD-R media. But mostly I'd scrap the player and spend $30 on a cheapie. It will cost you less in the long run.

Wow, thanks for all the replies. As far as a getting a new one. Thats is going to be the problem. I just started out doing them, just for me, then word got out, now everyone at work, has slides, movies they want to put on DVDs. My investment is about $2,000.00 and climbing . So I thought why not try to get my money back.

So as far as what DVD players. I have no clue. I just know they work on some and won't work on the older ones. I just thought there was something I was doing wrong.

I guess what I don't understand is, how can the DVD movies play no matter what type of player. I guess that's a real newbie question.

Someone mention the quality of the DVDs. I just purchase the ones I have at Best Buy.

So know are you telling me that I should purchase more expensive ones?

Some thing tells me that this not going to be easy to solve. I guess I could find out what everyone else is using to convert 8mm and slides.

I am sure that Iam not the first that this is happen to.

If anyone has any other Ideas sure would be glad to hear from you.

You need to get quality media not the cheap stuff if you plan on selling slideshows and homemovies for people. Check out www.nomorecoasters.com for info on good dvd media. Also like oldandintheway said if the dvd player is old enough it will not play a burned dvd regardless of the media type. I had an old (circa mid 90's) RCA dvdplayer that would not play any burned disc. The thing played pressed (hollywood) dvds great. It didn't take me long to go out and buy a new cheapie dvd player that would play anything I threw at it.

I would get your "customers" dvd player model before doing work for them and check the players compatibility with burned media. Check the dvd player section of videohelp.com to find out.

The commercial DVD movies are pressed not burned. They are made on expensive equipment and must be produced in large quantities to be economically manufactured. Every DVD player was designed to read single layer pressed DVDs.

All of the players from day one were made to read pressed disks.

Burned or writeable DVDs came later.

Most individuals on this forum will tell you and everyone else to use high quality media like TY or Verbatim. (Verbatim isn't always more expensive). They feel that this is the best course in all cases.

I do not agree with them on universal applicability but they often are effective in resolving some problems - like many of the old players.
