Alrighty then......
Here's the scenario. I'm getting interested in .AVI editing, so I wanna pick your brains (hmmmm brains).
I don't wanna create an intermediarry .AVI, thus encoding straight off the timeline, for reasons of diskspace.
Tools:
Scenelyzer for capping...
Prefferably UleadVS7.0, perhaps Premiere 6.0 for editing
AviSynth for frameserving..
CCE v2.5 for encoding...
If I have segmented .AVIs (or even one long one for that matter), can I add transitions, backround audio, titling, etc...., and serve it straight to CCE???
If the answer is YES, then would I need AviSynth anymore??

There is a Frameserver for Premiere, MediaStudio7, Vegas in Tools.
I dunno about VS7 -
Which leads me to my next question(s)...
Can these editors work in YUY colourspace?? Does Premiere's frameserver compare with AviSynth in regards to speed??
I was showing a friend the basics of editing in VS, but couldn't tell him how to encode straight to CCE after the transitions were done....
If that's not possible, then, like you say, perhaps I should try it in Premiere??... -
All I did was open the framesever in Vdub and check for a picture.
Didn't think to check colorspace -
If you are going to edit with Premiere, then frame serve from Premiere, because how are you going to frameserve w/ AVISynth if you dont want to save a file from Premiere. Sure I'd be willing to bet that AVISynth will frameserve faster, but it seems like a moot point here.
I think a better comparison here would be VirtualDub vs Premiere's frameservers. Because I wouldnt want to do lots of editing in AVISynth, I'd just use VirtualDub and live with the slower frameserving but easier editing.Ejoc's CVD Page:

Why speculate endlessly ? Just do it

Ok... I guess I dont get it. Given your reasons why not to use Vdub, could you please explain to me how you would frame serve using AVISynth of your Premiere Timeline that you dont want to saveout as an .AVI
It seems like your reason against VDub also eliminates AVISynth.Ejoc's CVD Page:

Up 'till now, I've been backing up VHS videos onto DVD successfully. Now, I wanna add some spice, rather than just backing up my home made movies.
Since Avisynth produced the best and fastest quality for serving a virgin .AVI, I was hoping that I could do the same off a Premiere timeline. Most footage was captured with either raw YUY2, or with a Huffy codec. Either way, I don't have space for a second .AVI after transitions.
I'll give it a try. I just needed a kickstart in the right direction.
Thanx......
