    Hi all,

    I'm new to the site.

I've read a good few posts about different programs before writing this, but I'm wondering can anyone tell me a really good program to convert DVD (.vob / VR) files into avi? I own loads of dvd's that I'd like to backup to smaller avi files (to save on hard disk space) but when I try any of the programs below, I never get good results?

I've tried (a) Auto GK and also (b) Handbreak & (c) Vidomi. (DVD Decryptor to extract files first).

    (a) seems very basic and doesn't have a lot of options available - even via the secret options facility.
    (b) seems to be a really good choice but the container is only MP4 or MKV - so no avi option.
    (c) seems very basic also, has some extra features that (a) doesn't have - but is also missing some other features.

Can anyone point me in the right direction or advise what they use personally?

    Thanks.

    Hey,

Thanks Baldrick, I'll give both of those a go and see what results I get. Thanks again for the info.

  4. xvid4psp. I like 5.037 over 6.0, 5.0 has more filtering options. You're going to have slow encode times if you're using on win7, intend to deinterlace, or don't heavily edit your filtering script, but it has enough one-click options for you to experiment with, and enough versatility that that you can tweak most options to best suit your needs.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'm trying a few of them out to see which best suits....

Handbreak is soo good, I just wish they had an avi container...

Will let you know how things went.
