  1. Is it just me or is this thing a pain in the donkey to use. I had no problem capturing to 16:9 widescreen format but editing is a nightmare. Pinnacle's movie studio is a breeze compared to this. Is there a good comprehensive tutorial out there? Maybe a video tutorial or something.

What version of MSP are you using. I have been working with 7 and it's just a matter of selecting the DVD 16:9 NTSC template and dropping my anamorphic 16:9 DV footage on the timeline and editing from there. Previews are in the proper aspect ratio and I end up with an anamorphic 16:9 mpg ready for authoring and viewing full screen on a 16:9 display or letter-boxed on a 4:3.

Is your source material 'real' 16:9 'anamorphic' or does it just have black bars added to the top and bottom? If it's 'anamorphic' 16:9 then the project must be set to 16:9. If it's black bars then the video frame is still 4:3 and the project should be set to the same.

  4. Thanks for the links Specialist-very helpful. JimJohnD: I captured from a vcr source as 16:9 so its not a true widescreen format. Just for kicks I edited the raw captured data and imported the file to pinnacle to perform the edits there. Although it recognized the file it did not play well. I'm using version 7.

The trouble I'm having is splitting the file across the entire file (too long and doesn't always work). The first cut is always okay but the second and third does not always flow right. A gap is created after each cut which you have to move next to the uncut section. I tried to first allow MS7 to autosplit the scenes but it crashes. I want to use the same approach that pinnacle uses and that is to just be able to cut the sections that I don't like from the file and then move on to transitions so that the final scenes flow nicely. I don't want to do the mark in mark out karate kid approach its just not practical.
