i'm trying to encode some jap animation so i can watch it on my TV, after the encoding process to SVCD from Dvix, the movie is fine but it seems that the subtitle at the bottom are a bit smaller, and it is lower than usual which makes it extremely hard to see. I've notice that the original Dvix clips was 640x480, and SVCD resolution is 480x480 and i'm wondering if this is the problem. I encoded the movie as 4:3 aspect ratio, i'm not sure if it's right? but encoding with 16:9 ratio brings the same problem, no different. This is really anoying n i'm willing to try anything to fix it. thank you in advance for helping me, i hope it's not too confusing.

Oh THanks, it worked, turned out i need to cut 30 from each side, i dun know why the TV is doing such a stupid thing

All TVs do - How much varies between make and model. This is usually taken into account when material intended for TV viewing is produced.

i ran into another problem, i can resize it but i can't save it, the files at full processing mode is like 25GB, way too big
, any ideas?

Well you can re-compress it but that causes a loss in quality. the best solution is to frameserve it directly to TMPGEnc. This feeds the video directly to the encoder without having to save an intermediate file.

There is a truly excellent guide & (S)VCD design helper program available for download on this very site for doing just exactly what you want to do. The guide was written by ElmarK - search for it using that author name, it's the only one he's written.
In short, for your NTSC DivX source at 640x480 you want to create an SVCD @ 480x480 with a picture size of 448x448 inside that MPEG thus having a black border of 16 all the way around to compensate for the TV overscan.
The other option would be to create an XSVCD @ 720x480 and have a picture inside that sized at 672x448. Either will display correctly on your TV assuming your DVD is capable of playing them. -
