  1. Hi all

When trying to import a file in TMPGEnc DVD author I get an error telling me

"Cannot use MPEG-1 Audio Layer-3 for standard DVD"

Anyone tell me why, or even better how to convert the audio to
    Layer-2 audio.

And maybe what is Layer-3 ?

    Thanks in advance.

MPeg layer-3 or MP-3, I'm sure you've heard of it.

    MP-3 to MP-2, try this.

  5. Most authoring apps accept mp3 as an input and convert to mp2, or pmc. You need to be more specific with your question. Is it background music for the menu screen or the entire sound track?

  6. Hi

Its a movie, converted from XVID, then decompressed to PCM and encoded with TMPEnc.

No probs so far, the audio was converted from WAV to MP2, or so I thought, with BESweet.

Now I have deleted everything except the file from TMPEnc, and thought everything was OK.

Have done this lots of times before without any problems.

So my question is, how to encode MP3-MP2?
Something must have gone wrong when I encoded from WAV to MP2. Probably selected MP3.... my mistake..

    Any sugggestions?

You can open the audio file with Tmpgenc and select to re-encode it into MP2 for dvd specs (i.e. 48kHz sampling rate).

It has been commented that the audio out of Tmpgenc is not particularly high quality and this is true (especially if you go down to 128kbps).

On the other hand, Mainconcept has a much much better audio compression engine and the demo is free.

Or you can re-open the audio file with besweet and make a more careful selection into MP2 this time . Almost every program can open an MP3 file, these days, and all MPEG encoders can encode them into MP2.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
