I have been using Ulead VideoStudio and ArcSoft ShowBiz to capture DV via a firewire cable to PC, so far so good.
After browsing this forum, I see most of you guys using VirtualDub to do the capturing, so I thing it must be a better stuff to do the job.
I downloaded it and tried it out, no success yet. VirtualDub said something like "No driver found" and nothing captured.
What kind of driver does VirtualDub need to capture DV with the firewire card?
Thansk a lot if you guys can give me some help.

You cannot capture in DV in Virtual Dub. If you are capturing in DV you are doing quite well anyway. You may find a way to eventually capture in DivX with Virtual Dub, but I seriously doubt if your quality will be better than DV.
Hello. -
Tommyknocker,
which is your point (1 or 2):
1) VirtualDub cannot capture DV from a DV camcorder no matter what.
2) VirtualDub can capture DV with some special card or driver, but not with Firewire card.
Thanks.

My point is number one. However, Virtual Dub can encode DV, once you have captured it with another application.
Hello. -
In reality, it doesn't matter what you capture with, as you're not capturing at all.
You're simply transferring data from your camcorder to your PC therefore regardless of what software you use the results should be the same.
For me, Virtualdub is great for anaolgue captures via the video-in of my ATI Radeon 7200 ViVo.
For capturing DV via firewire I use Pinnacle Studio 8.5.
I then edit it with Studio and then use TMPGEnc for encoding, Ulead Movie Factory for authoring and RecordNowMax for burning
Phew!
That's a lot going on (but my best route)!
Good luck
