  1. I have dvix movie file with ac3 audio that I'm putting onto dvd. The only way after encoding to keep audio in sync is to mux m2v file and AC3 file in TMPGEnc DVD Author. If I convert AC3 to Wave the audio is out of sync.
The problem is the AC3 sound is so low especially in the voice parts and sounds really tinny and hollow. I'm wondering if there is a way to improve the AC3 sound?

Has anyone else had this problem and been able to fix it?

You can't edit directly in AC3 - it has to be WAV at some point in the operation. If you get desync after converting to WAV and back again, compensate for it by adding some silence at the start (if the audio comes ahead of the video), or chopping some of (if the opposite).

  3. Hi Mats,
thanks for your reply. But yes I do use the ac3 file, not wave.

    Load the AVI in VitualDub
    Select Audio-Direct Stream
Save as Type, 'all files' result ac3 file, (not wave)
Run ac3fix on ac3 file to remove bad frames.
Encode AVI in TEMPGEnc (video only)
Used TMPGEnc DVD Author to author mpv & fixed ac3 file

    Have a look at below

This was only way to get my movie in sync. But still want to know if can improve ac3 quality.

  4. AC3Tool will increase volume but as mats.hogberg said it has to be converted to WAV to do so.You then can then import WAV to Audacity and clean up the sound.

  5. I know goldwave also lets you maximize volume, but again output is to wave. Would be so much easier if I could keep as ac3.
A pain to fix the audio sync when know as ac3 ok,but then stuck with low voice sound.
Am wondering if tried converting back to ac3 would I keep the improved audio or lose it?
