On my computer I use Media Player Classic to play avi's. I notice that I can increase the volume by clicking
Play>Filters> AC3 Filter and then slide up the Master Gain (see screenshot 1 and 2). However, on another computer, when using the same copy of Media Player Classic, I can't seem to access the AC3 Filter, and therefore there is no easy way to increase the volume of the avi. On my computer, I never knowingly installed the AC3 Filter, and AC3 filter doesn't appear anywhere in the program list or installed programs, so I don't know how it got on my computer. Also, AC3 Filter doesn't appear to be an integral part of Media Player Classic. Can someone explain this phenomenon?

It was probably included in some codec pack or other video software you have installed.
And to enable ac3 filter in your other computer then install it and it should appear in the start menu, under system configure it to decode ac3,dts,mp3,pcm,etc and you can boost the volume. -
I found another way on my computer with Media Player Classic to increase volume of an avi. In Media Player Classic, go to View>Options> Internal filters>Audio Switcher and slide up the Boost control. (see Screenshot)

You need to go here http://www.ac3filter.net/ , here http://www.ac3filter.net/wiki/AC3Filter , and here http://www.ac3filter.net/wiki/Download_AC3Filter .
Your AC3 Filter is way out of date. The last version they made is 2.6.0b. Download it.
This really helps when listening to audio/video/etc. files on my computer.
