  1. I've had the 510 for about 2-3 months now, and up until today it has been great. I was burning DVD with DVD Decrypter, and I got an error just after it was finished the lead-in. I forget the error but it had something to do with I/O. Anyway, I figured that I just made a coaster and went to put in another disc, and I noticed the drive won't open. The orange LED is just flashing. So I remove the disc with the emergency eject and reboot. On power up the LED is still flashing. Great. Tray still won't open. Great. I disconnected the power header from the back of the drive for a few minutes, but on power up I still have flashing. Windows "sees" the drive, but none of my programs can. It's listed under device manager as "SONY BOOT DRU-510A" The drive was working today, as I've burned about 4 movies this mourning. Anybody have any idea what is wrong or what I should do?

Sounds like it died. If you do a search you can find other people with sonys in the same boat.

  4. As it's only 2-3 months old and if it is indeed dead check with Sony. It may still be under warranty.

I have one and for about the same amount of time you have and have no problems what so ever. I have burned over 100 discs and no coasters.

    Side Note:
Heres a great little proggie I found off of www.doom9.org today. If you want to speed up your ripping speed with this drive.
