  1. My Question:

What is the function of the "marked errors" setting in IC?

    Their Answer:

The Marked Error feature puts in a type of copy protection. It puts a read error on the disk you are creating. This can be overcome by copying in RAW mode.

Did you ask them if it WORKED?

In my experience (selected the option, added a few of 'em, burned it) it was perfectly readable and copyable.

    ROFL.

I put an option in every program I write. The option is called "wreck output". It doesn't actually DO anything.

You believe everything you're told. Your DVD writer is INCAPABLE of writing errors to the disc. It's built that way. This is the same reason that most CD burners can't copy SafeDisc encoded discs, because they WILL NOT WRITE MARK ERRORS.

So maybe YOUR writer WILL. Great for you. Big whoop-di-do. You can create broken discs! Congratulations! I'm ssoooooooo happy for you with your expensive coasters.

  6. A few questions, but save your answers - I'll probobly not reply.

    1) Why would you want to intentionally put errors on backups of movies you own?

    2) From IC:
The Marked Error feature puts in a type of copy protection. It puts a read error on the disk you are creating. This can be overcome by copying in RAW mode.
If you actually can put errors on your discs. Wouldn't you just be making a disc full of errors that can be backed up somehow anyway?

Sounds to me like a pure waste of time. I could care less if it works or not.
A worthless option packaged in a SLOW program.

some people may want to do it as you can do a lot more than just copy, sorry backup commercial DVD's

I'll let you think of the other reasons people may use a DVD burner

as for the old 'marked errors' urban myth, I can't say what I would like to say and if I could anyway, it would probably end up being just be the same as the 'Can I copy a backup' thread that was just closed

to all of the people that told me i don't know what i'm talking about and or that their writer doesn't support this

    read this here

  15. Vance, if a disc is burnt with read errors, can most programs, such as Nero copy them anyway? Also are there any programs besides IC that can make it possible to make it impossible or more difficult to copy a disc in DVD format? Also, I have PS2 backups that I play but I keep my originals put away, and when my brother comes over he trys to get ahold of my backups to copy them and I don't want him doing this because he never lets me borrow any of his games so I don't want him copying mine. Is there a way to make it more difficult for him to copy them? Thanks

most times I will discuss threads till I'm blue in the face if I think someone is wrong and I am right, that I can't get away from

it's probably cos I'm right 99.99% of the time anyway

but what gets my 'back-up' (no pun intended ) about these forums is when people start with personal attacks when the disagreement gets a bit heated (sometimes it's not even warm) such as name calling or questioning your IQ or even being so petty in questioning your language skills cos u use shortcuts for words and dinnit pronounce the words propally and your granma is not rite and spelink is ronk and uver fings and stuff, and, and, and (:deep breath

this is a great forum but one of my pet hates are the guys who do most of the above, not just once but frequently and it seems a few can give but can't take and start to get personal

I would link to relevant posts but that would be childish and anyway they know who they are anyway

oh well, ranting over back on topic

@ AlienDust, nothing can really offer protection from making a backup of a backup even if you implemented copy protection

I guess the best way to stop him is to stop lending him the games if he doesn't lend you any in return. He will probably change his ways after that. That unfortunately is the best protection you can have

I won't go into the legalities either as some know-it-all will probably come in with that anyway :P

p.s. spelling and grammar corrections are welcomed as I am really 5 years old and still learning about life and stuff

    Hey Mac,

If you look back, you will see that Vance began all the namecalling. In fact, he threatened to beat me up. Yeah, that's right. He threatened physical violence because I questioned his (shaky) views.

So don't start on "what gets to you", ok?

    yeah let's back it up

    let's see......

you called me a crack smoker twice

i ignore it the first time,

as i didn't want another warning

but after the second time, i went back and edit a post to say something about your mom.

then you get kept it up. you kept calling me a crackhead

you even started a new posts because you knew

that since you knew nothing about the subject

a lot of other wouldn't know nothing about the subject either and you could bust me out

when they all agree with you (you thought i would run scared when everybody agreed with you)

you even had thanye jump in with the name calling (notice how i didn't say anything about him until he made 'my teacher should be fired' statement)

you even hijacked a couple of topics to try to prove your meaningless point

i never threaten you with violence

i said i use to whip people like you in high school

everybody can decide for themselves unless gurm goes back and edit what he says

he feel so foolish now that he KNOWS he is wrong about the whole matter

he is trying to save face

he trying to complain to the moderators on me

the mods know i've been in plenty of arguments around here

but they also know i don't start them

i just keep them flaming and flaming.....

as i am a seriously defensive person

i don't stand for anybody talking about me

if you grew in my 'hood', you had to be that way or you would not survive

    typo even suggest to me
that is is why you people do it (talk about me), because i will let it get to me

and then i will respond with something stupid

i thank him for that information

    maybe that will teach me,

    like typo said

"to be a bigger man and ignore it" (to you all's insult)

    gurm
what are you on this site for?

    i here to help people.

like Mackem X said when you make typing shortcuts
    and appear to talk funny

people like to make fun of you

    when they disagree with you

but i remember a time when everybody on this site used to talk and type like this (just like me)

THIS IS EXACTLY WHERE I GOT IT FROM, AS IT MADE TYPING EASIER FOR ME

I DON'T CARE IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT

but that was back in the day when this site was more about information and helpful (and it did not having people jumping on newbies for asking silly questions because we were all newbies if one form or the other)

and not about people and their arrogant and their know everything attitudes (current state it is in now)

    shoot, i still ask questions

    cos i know i don't know everything

    WTF?!??!?

where did I mention your name in that post I ranted on about?

in fact your reply of 'So don't start on "what gets to you", ok?' could be taken as a typical example of an 'easily offended' attitude as used by others on this forum but I'll take it with a pinch of salt for now amd assume it wasn't mean't like that

you may feel I have sided with vance but the fact is I haven't sided with anyone and I also don't really know enough to comment on the 'marked error' debate either but I do see both points of view so I'll leave that debate now

apologies if you felt it was directed at you but my previous rant was not aimed at anyone in particular as I did mention they. I may have been talking about vance but without me naming actual names it's members decisions as to who they think I mean

if anyone is actually offended by my ranting post then ask yourself why is that?

i see gurm is still complaining about me to the moderaters

if they kick me off the site for the stuff that YOU STARTED

    well......

it's not the end of the world.

i'm here to help people out and if you will check all of my posts, you will see how many problems that i have solved. a lot of people just can't look past my typing and grammar

    oh well

i didn't start having problems until a few months after ic7, dvd2one,and dvd9 to 5 came out and burning a dvd became astonishingly easy (prior to this making a dvd 9 to a dvd 5 was not a simple or short process as it might take up to 2 day to do it )

back then, this site was mainly composed of experts

soon, after burning a dvd 9 to a dvd 5 became easy, everybody became a member and a expert at the same time and their attitudes showed

shoot, they don't even want to help a newbie and they love to talk about everybody, if their typing or grammar is off, or if their opinion different from yours

what the heck are they here for then . i thought this site was vcdhelp.com or now dvdrhelp.com

    not ATTITUDES-R-US.COM

i been a member of the site for 2 years. when i first joined. i asked one question and then i didn't post again for over a year. thats why you see that i join feb. 2003, but that's not true

i just read and learned in the background until i became a expert at this.
then i posted back in as i could now help people out

I THOUGHT THAT'S WHAT THIS SITE IS ABOUT, HELPING PEOPLE OUT

    these days......well

these days it's more like the buddy system

if you have the right buddy you can do whatever you want

if you don't, you better watch how you act

  29. @ Vance, I think you're making some misconceptions about the site. I notice you keep mentioning how the poor old newbies get hammered when they ask questions...but much of the time it is warranted that they get hammered. This is DVDRHELP.COM...but not DVDRSPOONFEEDTHELAZYPEOPLE.COM. I can tell you that I learned the majority of what I know...(and that honestly isn't much compared to the wealth of knowlege in these forums) by reading and searching. People don't read the FAQ's...the come on and ask...WHAT THE BEST BACKUP SOFTWARE...what's the BEST DVD MEDIA...what's the BEST THIS OR THAT.

It never ends. Those people don't deserve to get responses. They want people to spoon feed them. And what makes it worse....when a newbie asks a question where they have already predertermined the answer....and they don't want to hear other possible solutions....they shoot down your answer. They ask a question..but then when you tell them what the problem is...they don't want to hear it and then they start TELLING YOU that you're wrong. LMAO.....and as far as how this site is run...I have no clue...i'm not a mod so I don't know what's discussed...only the mods and Baldrick know...but it's obvious that this site is run better then just about any other site i've seen.

I don't even visit other sites for more then a couple of minutes..if at all. There's no reason to..but I can tell you that before being a member of this site...I went to other forums and saw that almost every day somebody was threatening to hunt somebody down and do this and that to them. That almost never happens here....yea..people get into heated debates......but I almost never see the threats i've seen REGULARLY at other sites. That's a pretty good indicator that this site is run better the most, if not, all other sites!

there's quite a lot of what Vance says that is sadly true

I'm exactly the same, saw this site moons ago using a different username and posted the odd newbie question and got some great help, stayed away for a long time and came back again and it has now enabled me to become the Master I am now

I normally just help people now or try to explain to them something is not to blame and not to give up hope and blame the tools like some do as most have a workaround

but some people actually need spoonfeeding but to give them grief when they ask stupid questions etc is stupidity itself

why not just ignore the post? and it will go away within a few hours

some members seem to enjoy the bashing etc and if it's gives them a kick then fine but I think its sad!

we so called experts are very much in the minority in the real world out there but some people have the attitude of 'well I know how to do it why dont you?'

it's because some people out there just cant grasp at all even if you spell it out to them in the simplest of terms. It happens with everything and not just backing up DVD's

have you ever tried telling your woman how to set the Video to record the football?, Exactly, you just feel you are bashing your head against a brick wall and end up arguing

step back and take a breath and just walk away

    peace to all

p.s. I ain't in the 'click' but I don't wanna be in the 'click'
