Hi,
I am using the DVD Shrink Beta 3 for encoding. Before encoding, I performed the deep analysis. Somehow, my hard drive capacity seems to be less after this function. My question is are there any files being created after the analysis, which I am unable to see(Cached). I looked at the forums and also checked at Documents and Settings folder. But I could not see the Application Data folder under the User Name.
Any help would be more than welcome!!
Thanks in advance.

I guess you are right andkiich. But where do I find the files so that I can delete them once I have burnt them.
Thanks. -
Hi all.
Depending on your system configuration the files should be (hidden) in:
"C:\Documents and Settings\(user)\Application Data\DVD Shrink 3.0".
You might have to change your system settings to "View hidden files" to see them though. -
Thanks, Doughnut. I found the files under the Application Data, but these are real small files(about 1 MB or so). And the difference in the hard drive is about 7 GB!!
Any other ideas.
Thanks. -
"Thanks, Doughnut."
I didn't realise this was addressed to me at first.
I quite like the name though.
7GB is a lot of space, and I've never heard about DVD Shrink generating any files other than the backup ones, or the analysis results (in the case of v3.0 beta).
This is more like the sort of space used by a 1:1 rip. -
Hi ddlooping,
I am sorry about addressing you as Doughnut. The only reason was because I saw the words next to your image!!
Could there be any reason for the difference of 7 GB or so?? Basically, I manually added up all the folders(about 12) and tied to the available space. That is the reason for the 7 GB difference. Any ideas??
Thanks. -
Hello, bappida69.
Don't apologize for calling me Doughtnut, I quite like the name anyway.
I'm not sure what you mean by "...all the folders (about 12)" though.
Could you give me their names, or better still, make a screen capture and post it here?
But as I said, I don't know if I'll be of much help, as DVD Shrink doesn't generate any other files than the ones I mentionned previously. -
Hi Doughnut!!
I am at work now and hence not having access to my home machine. However the folders I mentioned was the just the standard folders/directories available for my operating system. Like Documents and Settings, Program Files, WINNt, etc. etc. So it is basically comparing the total file space used for these directories with the total available space.
Thanks. -
have you got any programs that work similar to Norton Recycle Bin Protection running?
was it immediately after doing an analysis that 7GB free space disappeared?
has the computer crashed recently? as this sometimes upsets the reported disk space -
bappida69,
I have the exact same problem on my system. There is 7 GB of unaccounted for space used on my hard drive. I hadn't identified the culprit as DVD Shrink 3.0 Beta, but that was on of the last programs I'd used before noticing the problem.
I have checked every folder with all files visible, and I just cannot account for the extra 7GB of used space. I've used various hard drive scanning tools, and none of them find any problems. Wherever the files are that are taking up this extra space, I just cannot find them. They must be unlinked files.
The only other uncommon things that happened prior to the missing space were as follows:
After stripping and compressing a movie in DVD Shrink 3.0, I was making an image with ImgTool which totally messed up all by itself (leaving a DVD image which was only 387MB).
After redoing the image (and it came out correctly the second time), I tried to burn it with DVD Decryptor. It stalled at 99% of the way through the burn, forcing me to manually reset my computer.
Also, a DVD image I used to keep on my desktop and frequently loaded with a virtual drive (Daemon Tools), I finally deleted. But I made sure to unload the image prior to deleting it, to help avoid any problems.
But unless you were also doing any of the above, it's probably DVD Shrink 3.0 Beta to blame. Just thought I'd give some additional background just incase it helps somebody to shed some light on this problem.
I'm going to run a full defrag tonight to see if that helps. I'll let you know if it does. -

I'm pretty low on HD space on one drive of my 5 (my DVDShrink destination drive) and I did think I was missing something but I cannot recall exactly how much space there was previously but it was quite a few missin GB's that was in question
only time will tell I guess -
Hi all,
Thanks for all the replies.
Mackemx, I have the Norton AntiVirus program running. In fact I installed it just last week only. Does the Norton Protected Recycle bin have any impact on this.
I don't remember the timing exactly about the disappearance of 7 GB or so. But it is a fact that I installed DVD Shrink Beta and performed Analysis and I had this problem only after that.
Savael, any luck with the defragmentation of the hard drive? -
bappida69, I do not believe that Norton Anti-virus could be the cause of your problem.
But MackemX might be on the right track if you have Norton Systemwork installed (specifically the Protected Recycle Bin).
If you do, try and open it and see what's inside.
I had a friend who had a similar problem (GBs worth of space disappearing until his hard-drive was too full to even defrag), and this protected storage bin was the culprit.
Files that he thought he had deleted were still in this bin.
He wasn't using DVD Shrink either.
I used to use Systemworks but found it was more trouble than it's worth.
Now I only use the anti-virus from the package. -
Turns out that the defrag didn't do a thing. Can't say I'm surprised though.
I doubt that it's Norton giving you problems, since I don't have any Norton software, nor do I have any other similar software.
For now, I'm writing this off as a DVD Shrink 3.0 Beta analysis bug. But I'd still really like to know how to get my 7GB back.... -

Before this I was planning on formatting the drive and reinstalling Windows, but now I guess I don't have much choice. -
Thanks guys for providing me some insight for these missing files. The culprit was the Norton Protected Recycle Bin. By default, the drive usage was set up as 10%, which translates to about 6GB of my HD!! Anyway, I changed the percentage to 2, which essentially increased my available space.
Hope this helps somebody else too... -
Glad your problem was fixed, bappida69.
I do not think DVD Shrink to be the source of your problem, Sevael.
You'd better try and find the real culprit before you run out of space. -
I have the same problem when I deleted some Shrink files. My Norton "protected" them when I chose to drag into the bin instead of right click/delete. Just EMPTY NORTON PROTECTED FILES and reboot. You should be fine after that, I was.....Terence

Depending on your system configuration the files should be (hidden) in:
"C:\Documents and Settings\(user)\Application Data\DVD Shrink 3.0".
That's correct. I just checked and I have 17 tiny files there, the result of analisys done on 17 DVDs. Total file size is about 47kbNo DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -
"I just checked and I have 17 tiny files there, the result of analisys done on 17 DVDs. Total file size is about 47kb"
That would be the result of the quick analysis DVD Shrink does when you open a disc or files the first time.
A deep analysis file (in v3.0 beta) can take up to 250kb or so.
JFYI, the deep analysis can be stopped at any time.
DVD Shrink will do its best to use it as is.
But if you ever decide to "deeply analyse" the same disc again, DVD Shrink will not have to start from scratch; it will just append the data to the previous file. -
Just to let you dude's know I had the same problem with www.dvd2dvd-r.com and I never run software like Norton. If ou use this program do not work from your C: drive
