  1. I want to make a switch to a different OS. Though I don't know much about other operating systems.

I hear about Lindows, Linux, Red Hat, etc etc. But which one is the best for DV Editing?

Where should I start reading about this stuff?

I know that these systems are stable, but how do they deal with virus problems? Are there any?

    Thanks!

  2. Mandrake Linux or Red Hat Linux. You can stick with the Windows apps if you want by using Wine.

  3. Very good, thanks for the info. The wine screenshots look great. I will now need to do some more reading on that application, Mandrake and Red Hat. I also came across Solaris. Any suggestions on that?

What about drivers and such say for my DVD burner, Sony video camera, firewire card, ATA controller for my hard drives, etc etc? Would the drivers from the manufacturer be compatable?

You can use the Nero API under Wine I think......Solaris is a Unix OS. Use it if you want, but Linux is better for this stuff since it's more user-friendly Ithink.
