Half a year ago when I got my first -R/-RW/-RAM drive (LG 4020B) I encountered problem with my favorite DVD Decrypter when burning iso files. It often stucked at 99% and nothing could even shut it down (except pressing RESET on my box). I read later that DVD Dec. had some probs with drives supporting -RAM format, and someone suggested using older version of DVD Dec. (well, it didnt work either). So I lay off DVD Dec. for awhile since I sold my Sonyshit DRU-500 at that time.
I got recently Pioneer A06 for playing with ("testing") and to my surprise: DVD Dec. 3.1.6.0 still shows the same problem, my very first iso burning stucked at 99% again! And this time it also freezed my mouse too (altough after few minutes I could move cursor until I click on anything - then it freezes again).
So - WTF!? - it is obviously some bug in DVD Decrypter itself, not related to drive's -RAM capabilities at all (same box, same old W2K OS, everything the same as half a year ago - except it has SP4 now).
Anyone with solution to this please post a reply.
Anyone with suggestion for similar proggie like DVD Decrypter (with iso read/write options) please post a reply.
Comments like "it works fine with my xxxxxx drive" etc - please spare us reading it and save them for yourself (unless ofcourse youre one of those posters with 10000 posts in their counter, where 99.99% of them are just useless comments in this type)
TIA

Just use SmartRipper and see if it does the same thing.
I use SmartRipper for quite some time (currently 2.41) and I never saw any output option to .iso there??

have you tried nero or other burning software to burn your iso?
I also burned .iso files (made by DVD Decrypter) with RecordNow Max 4.50 with mixed results - some discs play fine, some play only on my Apex players (those do play anything anyway). And this proggie's GUI plain sux IMHO. -
if you rip in back mode with smartripper
you can burn to with the dvd video mode with nero
i personally don't mess with .iso as the is just a extra step in the burning process -

well vance, youre wrong.
First off all - its not any extra step. Instead of ripping vobs you rip them within/inside of .iso file - and with one click you burn such .iso file later; actually ripping vobs and using them to author new DVD requires more steps than ripping to iso and burning itIMHO it doesn't make sense when backing up DVD-5 discs...
Second: when you rip in file mode/backup mode (dvddec./smartrip.) and then burn it with Nero, you won't make *EXACT* backup copy of the disc. Yes, you will have copy of all the video content, but had there been any DVD-ROM features on original DVD you will not have them anymore on your backup copy.
Third: Another thing are disc titles: i.e. "BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM" - you can't enter such long title in Nero (at most you'll end up with "BEND IT LIKE BEC") while ripping original DVD to iso and burning it preserves any original titles (and publisher's ID, copyright info, etc etc). And having said that I add that only .iso mode copying of DVD-5 discs gives you real full backup of the disc without missing or changing anything on yer backup disc.
and last: thanks for your help, but I do know how to rip, author, burn etc etc with smartripper, nero and probably most of other progs (but thats not the point). My original post of this thread is regarding DVD Decrypter not finalizing discs/freezing/stuck at 99% and I'm asking for help finding either solution or at least the reason why it happens, or help finding similar software capable of creating and writing DVD's .iso images.
I believe you have misread entirely subject of this thread, but anyway - thx again. -
Apparently you aren't the only one who has this problem. Check out this post; http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=b9fc021bcd1b073f807eecb3da6efe54&threadid=5279...=dvd+decryptor. See if that helps.

wierd cause i have no problem burning with dvd decypt but i lots of time am ripping a dvd to .iso and it freezes at 99% so i now use smart ripper with no problem
-
that what i told him in the first place.
i distinctly remember somebody saying that about 8 or 9 months ago
when they had his problem
in backup mode with smartripper
you get everything including dvd rom content as i just backed up ice age recently and i got all the computer rom stuff
DereX888
i personally don't use dvd decrypter (no reason, just a personal choice)
i just remembered that somebody had that problem before
and said smartripper solved it -
@Laddydaddy
thx for the link. Im going to try that in 5min
@belvedere
i dont have and never had any probs ripping DVDs with dvd decrypter at all, it only freezes when im burning with it, and only when I'm using LG GMA-4020B or Pioneer A-06.
I used DVD Decrypter for ripping and burning iso since it first came out on Pioneer A02, 104, Sonyshit DRU-500 and few other drives - with no problems at all. It first froze on my recent LG drive, and now on A06 too.
@vance43211
I dont know, either Im too tired tonight or Im just plain blind - but I still don't see option "create/rip to/output to .iso" in smart ripper? and Im staring at it right now
vance, i understand what youre saying - i can copy all vobs/ifos with dvd decrypter in file mode as well as with smartripper, and them dvd-rom files are easily copyable with anythin (windows explorer even), but still its not the same as ripping dvd to iso and burning it (i mentioned before i.e. long disc titles - simple dvd authoring tools like nero cant do that). -
I turn off UDMA (as Laddydaddy's link suggests) for LG GMA-4020B and I just burned iso image with DVD Decrypter. It did NOT froze and everything burnt fine
However: before it did not froze always at 99% every time it was burning either, it happened roughly every 2 out 5 burns, therefore I can't tell for sure had this switch to PIO mode really helped until I burn at least one spindle of disc without any surprises... It is 5AM in here, no more tests for todayI'll post results here after few days.
THANKS VERY MUCH TO ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR HELP!
Update:
DVD Decrypter doesn't stuck anymore after setting burner(s) in PIO mode. But it takes lotsa CPU cycles when copying disc2disc even from drives on separate IDE drives. -
this thread is a bit old, but i thought you might want to know anyway.
i had the same problem with my LG 4020B, dvd decrypter got to 99% burning and froze.
i solved the prob by ripping with dvd decrypter, and burning with either Alcohol 120% or Copy2DVD.
hope this helps (even though i think u solved the problem earlier)

--->er.....you can get all that with dvd decrypter...rip all the disc,and it gives you it all.smartripper is shite.its got a lot of probs with it too IMO.
bwest burning software is CopytoDVD. no errors like nero,or any of the other crappy progs out there. -
