Hello. I've converted a quicktime file to Mpeg2, with Mainconcept encoder. then imported the files to TMPEnc DVDAuthor. Created DVD compliant files. Now when I play the resulting VOB files in Power DVD,(before burning) they're no problem. Excellent encoding, audio is good. Then I burn to cd(brand name), as a mini DVD.(500MB file) I put it on my DVD player, and what happens? The audio is completely slowed down and distorted. WHY is this not noticable in Power DVD? i even played the cd in POWER DVD. SAME audio distortion. I also played the MPEG2 file with ATI fileplayer. NOTHING is wrong with the audio. It plays very well. When I encode the Quicktime file, I set audio as Layer 224Bits. Is this not DVD compliant? The quicktime's original audio was 256bit. I even encoded at that rate once. Even used a different encoder (sorenson squeeze)Same result slowed down and distorted audio. Quite a problem. Any suggestions as to how I can correct it? Thank You

The Quicktime file's audio was 256,bit. When I encoded to Mpeg 2, I set it to video 720x480, audio,Layer 2, 224,bit. Oh, I actually didn't use mainconcept to encode the Quicktime to Mpeg2. I used TMPEnc Plus. I've varied the audio between 224 and the original 256 bit. as I've created DVD compliant files twice. Re-encoding each time from original Quicktime file. the rsult is the same at both bit rates, sdistorted audio. But it only seems to happen after I create VOB films fromthe Mpeg2 files in TMPEnc DVD Author. Pretty strange.

still doesnt answer the sample rate question of what was source and what did you change it to (if you did) ..

sample rate would be like 32khz or 44.1khz or 48khz

dvd is 48 , svcd is 44.1 and your source file could be something totally else ...

The original Quicktime audio file was 44.1khz 256 bit. I was changing it to 48khz and 224 bit,(in encoder) then (second time encoding)256 bit, for DVD complaint audio. The discrepancy seems to be in the sample rates,44.1 to 48khz,when converting to MPEG2. I then the MPEG2 file as the source in TMPEnc DVD Author. I'm still not sure WHY the audio is perfect when I play the MPEG2 file, with Power DVD. But when I author(creating VOB) and burn it, the audio is so garbled. I'm just adding a couple menus and burning.

I created an SVCD,480x480, with 44.1khz audio and 384 bit, from the Quicktime file. Perfect audio. In sync. Fairly rich depth. I wasn't able to correct the audio problem for a DVD complaint file. But I can live with a good looking SVCD. It really is perplexing. BTW,the Quicktime file was the short film Batmaneadend.
