I tried rejig, but for some reason, i got no audio. I multiplexed it, and tried DVD shrink, and it's 5.6gb, and i need it to be smaller, about 4.4gb in size. I tried to compressing it, but it won't get any smaller. Any suggestions? The reason it's that large of a file is because i messed up in the settings for capturing the tv footage in question. I should have used a lower bitrate, i think.

If you aren't that concerned with quality, you can also run it through Shrink a second time.

I might just do that, but i remember the software Videoredo had like a commercial editing feature in it, that would cut commercials from videos. Do you think that it would help me cut down the running time of the video, so that it MIGHT turn out that it'll fit on a dvd?

It will fit on a DVD, you just have to use a low enough bit rate when re-encoding to make it smaller. At almost 4 hours of running time it would really be best to either split it between 2 single layer discs or use a dual layer disc rather than trying to jam it into one single layer DVD unless you really don't care about the lower quality you'll get from the low bit rate needed to fit it into one single layer disc.
Yes, editing the commercials would be a good idea. That would make it smaller. Depending on how long the commercials are, the resulting video minus commercials might be small enough to fit on a single layer DVD in acceptable quality. -
