  1. I just downloaded a movie which is in a weird DivX format. Its at 14.985 frames per second, 352 by 240 pixels. I can view it fine in Windows Media Player, but when i try to convert it in TMPGEnc the preview it completely black. The result is a file that has the sound, but no picture. whats going on? another question, will the result on vcd be extremely crappy and un-watchable?

Sounds like a new Mpeg4, super compressed , takes a lot of time to uncompress and display those. Click right mouse select properties on AVI, see what it says.

Is it a full movie, but only around 150Mb ?

  4. well, ive used vdub to convert it to avi, from there i can successfully convert to mpeg. the only thing that sucks is that it jitters, and i think thats because the original is in 14.985 frames per sec and i have it converting to 29.97 on tmpgenc, which is the only thing i can do right? otherwise it wont play as a vcd on my dvd player?

  5. You can also frameserve it to TMPGenc w/ AVISynth (this is what I normally do).

Yes those Mpeg4's are ok to play, but unless the original convertion had a good quality movie to work with, they are not so good.

I also re-save to DivX fast motion, then they are much easier to work with. You have done as best as you can considering the original source is not so good.
