    i have this drive in my compaq which seems to rip at a maximum of x2

    is there a way to get it faster or am i stuck to x2

    or what is a good fast replacement drive??

    Sounds like a korean drive, LG i think. I have LG cd-writer and it also got those letters, HL-DT-ST. But how to make it faster, dont ask me. Maybe you can find more info/upgrades for it now when you know the manufacturer, but i cant say for sure if it is LG.

    It is a LG. I have one in my P.C. It reads dvds at about 7.5x give or take in decrypter. This is with the firmware that came with it. You could try upgrading the firmware. Might work.
