i want to convert my vobs i ripped, into divx, so i made the d2v file in DVD2AVI and tried using tmpgenc to output the file to divx but there is no audio except a ringing, feedback-like sound. so is their a way to fix my problem or another easy way to convert to divx? i downloaded the divx 5.0.5 codec and am using that to encode in tmpgenc. i tried going with the tutorial at https://www.videohelp.com/avi2divx.htm but i cant open the vobs without the Virtualdub-MPEG2 upgrade which i cant find anywhere. so anyone out there know a good, easy way to convert to divx? thanks

Wow. I'd suggest any of the DivX guides, as you are doing multiple things wrong. The VDUB you want is available, try doom9.org if you can't find it on this site.
However, you don't need that version of VDUB is you have DVD2AVI, about any version will work. You need A ripper program, DVD2AVI, and VDUB (as well as DivX(5.0.5) codec, which is full of spyware). To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
why dont i need that version of virtualdub if i have DVD2AVI? what can i do with DVD2AVI?

Take a look to the left at DVD Rip for guides. As a DivX newbie I would STRONGLY suggest that you take look at Gordian Knot (d/load to left or at http://www.doom9.org, there are several guides and gordian knot forum at doom9 too).
It's an intergrated package of several programs that can do everything from rip the DVD to encode the DivX for backup.
Here's on overview of the DivX converison:
1) Rip DVD
2) Use DVD2AVI to generate d2v (video) and audio file (wav or ac3)
3) Run VDub (or nanDub), use d2v to frameserve video and wav for audio.
4) Select desired output codec (DivX 5.0)
5) Dub the project
That's a really basic overview because the source DVD could be at 23.976fps, telecided, or 29.97true interlace. You'll have to de-interlace your source 'somehow' (each for film can be harder for true interlaced). etc. etc.
It's all in teh guides, good luck. -
i got the virtualdub upgrade and i can open the vobs now. i'm following the guide i mentioned in the opening post and i'm wondering, since i seem to be able only open 1 vob at a time, do i have to convert each vob part and put them together after or is there a way to convert them all at once. i made a d2v file, like i would to use it in tmpgenc, with DVD2AVI but virtualdub wasnt able to open that.
