I've got a problem with merging files using TMPGEnc. I've used the merge and cut facility to join two mpg files, which it has done without error. Playing the joined file through a media player such as WMP or PowerDVD shows that the two parts are indeed joined correctly, audio & video are in syny etc....BUT:
Every program only seems to recognise the file as being half its cumulative length. By that I mean I originally joined two 47 minute files, but instad of recognising the full hour and a half or so, media players still think the file is 47 minutes in length!
Now this wouldn't be a problem, but when I try to re-encode this using TMPGEnc to a DVD compliant MPG it only encodes the first 47 minutes, and produces an output of only half the movie.
Is there anything I can do to get around this problem?

Thats real strange.
Do both mpegs read into TMPG and PowerDVD correctly before the merge?
Assuming they do:
Don't know for sure, but you might wanna try this:
1) read the 1st file into MPEG2Cut.
2) Cut the file from the begining to 3 mins into the movie (1st 3 mins - short test case)
3) read 2nd file into MPEG2Cut
4) cut 3 min out of the file (somewhere in the middle - not beginning or end).
5) using VOBMerge, or HJsplit, combine the sliced 1st mpeg with the sliced 2nd mpeg.
If this fixes the "time" problem - total time is 6 min, then probably what is wrong is the header to the 2nd mpg is somehow screwed up. There are header editors out there that u could use to manually fix that.
Generally, any mpg that TMPG doesn't read in correctly is due to incorrect headers, at least in my experience.
Worst-case, you can use this approach to eventually find the troublesome spot in the combined file, assuming the header is ok.
Hope this helps. -
i dont know if this could be a problem,
but are those 2 files in the same resolution/bitrate ?
if they are not in the same resolution/bitrate, i THINK its the cause of the problem.
but i might be wrong about the whole thing.
anybody can confirm that ?HELL AINT A BAD PLACE TO BE -
Heavensent - good point
I didn't think about that. I've never experimented with this myself, but I've read that you have to have the SAME RESOLUTION, but can have different bit rates.
Anyone disagree?? -
the timecode is foked up...just use MPEG2VCR open it and just save it...and walla...problem solved easily...no loss in quality....and it will fix the timecode properly...and know you will see the time fixed...i had that happend to me.....laters
oh and MPEG2VCR is fast...wont take you ...hmm tops 3 minutes..on an average machine...latas
