Any utilities to repair mpeg or vob files?

DVD+RW disc made on a Philips 985 set-top dvd recorder with a few video clips that just started freezing in identical spots when played on several dvd players, including pc player. It played fine the first few times, so it might be due to a scratch. I cleaned the disc and it does not appear to have any big scratches.

Tried to copy/paste the vob from dvd to hd to take a look at it. Got a data error, "failed crc", which means a checksum error, so I couldn't copy the file to the hd.

Are there any utilities that might be able to open/repair the file?
