  1. I have a vcd and i want to improve the quality of the audio because it sounds a bit (like the people are speaking tru a towel or something). I've searched the forum and came up with a link to lordsmurf to use sound forge to remove the muffle but i can't hear no difference. So i use the noise reduction plug-in. But i don't know how to use it. Can some one tell me how to improve the sound quality. OR how to use Sound Forge.

  2. I use Cool Edit Pro. Unfortuanally it doesn't support mp2 files, so you'll have to use virtual dub to convert it to wav or mp3 before you edit it. It has a lot of great options like noise removal and hiss removal.

Sound Forge with the noise reduction plugin is much more powerful for what cunwiz wants to do. Although you can get the noise reduction plugin to work with Cool Edit.

Try using some of the presets of the plugin and also play around with the values of it and preview it and hear what sounds best. If your having trouble finding the plugin in sound forge (I did ), I found that you can go to the "DX Favorites" tab on the toolbar and click "organize"; you can find the plugin there, and it will show up on the "DX Favorites" tab when added to the DX Favorites folder in the "Organize Favorites" dialog box.

  4. I agree with Donny the Sound Forge noise reduction plugin works good... I compared that with the cool edit hiss removal and I personally like the soundforge filter better.

Just as a note.. you can preview the soundforge noise reduction filter while you make changes... so just hit play in the NR settings box, and then while it is running make adjustments...you can tell right there on the spot by moving the sliders if it sounds better.

depending on how your source audio is, I found that using the graphic eq first in Soundforge to enhance dull sounding tracks, particularly for muffled voice, works great, then passing it through the NR filter...

    goodluck
