Hi all.
I have been playing around a lot lately, with making svcd movies out of my DV home movies. 40 min movie is 8 gb on the hd. And i want a backup on disk (dont have any dvdrecorder). So im trying to make the best svcd i can.
I have decoded a lot of movies using TMPG before, and had great results.
I use Premiere 6.5 for the editing, and i have read on these pages that the Mpeg encoder in Premiere 6.5 is very good. So i try to use that. My problem is that whenever there is motion in the video, the picture looks like blur, (think it is called interlaced - you know in stripes)
I use the standart Premiere High quality Pal SVCD settings. What do i need to do to make the movie look as good as it does when i convert normal movies with TMPG ?

Another thing while im at it.
Instead i save the movie in Premiere with export timeline->movie. It tells me it uses "Microsoft DV (PAL). So i guess i need a codex to decode that format. Right ?
I try to open the video in the good old TMPG, but it says it dosent know the format. Then i try to open it in virtual dup, and it tells me (please see picture):

Since Premiere can read your file I think you have a DV codec. Try this in TMPGEnc: Option -> Environmental settings -> VFAPI plug-in. Right click on the AVI VFW and increase the priority until it is at the top of the list and try opening the video
You didn't mention if your encodes are intended for computer viewing or tv. If you want to watch it on the computer then you need to deinterlace. If you are going to watch it on tv then it should look fine.
