Standalone DVD plays DVD+R/W's, but not DVD+R's?

Hello!

I am have a problem that has me highly confused. My Magnvox MDV450 will play DVD+RW's that I have burned, but will not play DVD+R's that I burn. My burner is a Memorex DVDRW 2.4x8AA, with the firmware upgraded to 1.51. Media used is the Memorex DVD+RW that came with the drive, the Memorex DVD+R that came with the drive, and Verbatim Datalife Plus DVD+R disks, the one made in Singapore.

What happens with the DVD+R's is I put them in the DVD player, it says 'Disk Loading', then says disk error after about 20-30 seconds. I have occasionally had the Memorex DVD+R one work, but only for about half an hour before the movie freezing, and getting the disk error message.

I have used a lot of the hints on the forums and guides here, including turning off every option in Nero except ISO standards, making sure UDF 1.02 is selected, used UDF, UDF/ISO, etc., used Bitchanger to make sure it would write in the DVD-ROM part, tried Copy2DVD, Imgtool, DVD Decrypter, etc. in trying to get one of these DVD+R disks to work in the player, but now I have a nice stack of 8 expensive coasters.

I bought a single Nashua brand DVD+R tonight at Wal-Mart I'm going to try, but before I do, I thought I would see if any of you experianced people could help a newbie like me.

Go to http://www.dvdplusrw.org/ and check if your player is listed as being able to play DVD+R. I've also read somewhere that DVD+RWs are more compatible than DVD+Rs because they have higher reflectivity.
