  1. Can anyone name some of the Cheapest printers that will print directly onto CD/DVD discs... Both injet and Thermal.
And what's the cheapest one that does more than one CD/DVD at a time?
Epson has one that prints 6 at a time.
    Whats the traps to avoid??

    I avoided the trap completely:

Probably not the answer you were looking for, but it works and is a lot cheaper.

I can do those core labels with MediaFace II. Just buy the product code 856660 labels (US CD Labels with core and spine) which has two full size labels and two core labels on the same sheet. I assume they also offer a core only label package.

I used a program called Surething. They are called hub labels and there are a couple of companies that make them. Surething sells a package of 520 labels for $9.95. I think Media II sells them for like 1000 for the same price. I only know my sharpie losts its labeling job and is now retraining as a mail parcel addreser. My disk-sized labels have been laid off for lack of work.

I just shrunk the image to fit on the label.

    Tommyknocker,

Did you just shrink a scan of a DVD label or did you take an image and make it conform to the label(ie a hole in the middle)?

  9. Tommyknocker,
Wonderful Idea. Couple of questions though.

1- Could this method cause any play back problem like the way the full labeling mathod would?

2- I do have the surething software, where can I get the lables?

    Thanks.

I just shrank an image of DVD label from cdcovers.cc, the placed it over the label. The programs prints out the label but does not print where the hole would be. So as you are deciding where the label should go, you can see where the hole will be inrelationship to the label image.

I use this way because sharpies and full labels were giving me playback problems with my disks. The problems vanished when I started doing it this way.

After loading the software, go to Help-->Order Labels.... Select either Order Online or Continue.

  11. Hi Tommy, you're right Cd labels are not the answer I required. I have used these stickers for 5 years. It doesn't give the high quality thermal output as the thermal printers. And sometimes the sticker do peel off.
I was just wondering what's the cheapest printer available at the moment that's all. Thermal printer gives high quality output. Why would you avoid it??

  12. There's a cheap Casio printer thats been mentioned on this forum a few times, but it only prints one color at a time. As for full color thermal printers, I have absolutely no idea on cost - I'm actually afraid to look

Because I already own a bubble jet printer that prints hub labels to my satisfaction. I would have to chuck that perfectly good process to spend good money to do something I already do at a fraction of the cost. Best wishes to you, though.

What about Epson's EZ CD printer (or something like that) - they go for $400? Have anyone ever used it?

  15. I use the Frosty No-Wobble labels from Americal. They are ultra thin and transparent, they give a cool metallic look to silver topped disks. They don't shift when they heat up in your set top player, but they are not as absorbent as regular paper, so if your inkjet has an ink volume or dry time setting as my HP 952 does, you'll be OK. I've done about 18 disks like this, not one has given me a problem. I use the BeAll disks.
