  1. Hello again,

Here I am still suffering along with Ulead Movie Factory 2, still trying to convert an .avi so I can put it on a DVD.

Movie Factory doesn't give the option to 'span' disks, that is to say if the file is too big it won't fit on a standard DVD. YOu can't span it to a second disc.....They DO offer the option to compress the file however, that's what I want to know about... that option is in a box in the lower lefthand corner of the MF2 screen.

How do you get the selected option to 'stick" ? There is no OK button to click after you choose the compression you want.

IE: If I choose "Fair Quality" there's no way to keep that setting even for the current burn. If I continue on to the burning phase, the progress bar still shows that the files are too large for one disc, unlike in DVDShrink where you can see that you are gaining space by using compression. I am opertaing under the assumption that the compresion won't hurt the quality of the .avi that much since its already lossy due to being an avi already.

BTW I have trouble with DVD Shrink too, I'll save that one for another time!

    Thanks to all who reply!

    J T

PS: Does anyone use this program and like it? Or is it stop gap measure that tries to satisy the point and click idea without really giving you a useful program that is easyt to use and produces a decent result??

I use MF2 to convert all of my movies to DVD. BUT...I don't burn with it-just save the files to HD in a VIDEO_TS folder. If the result is too large to fit onto a DVD-R, I shrink it with InstantCopy, then burn it with Nero. Never had any problems at all-even with avi files.
