Hello

I have a NTSC 16x9 DVD that I ripped (DVD Decrypter in movie only FILE mode) and I used Vobsub to RIP the subtitles.

Anyways ... I am using TMPGEnc to re-encode this film so that it will fit onto a single layer DVD recordable (the original is a DVD9 disc).

Now, I tried a sample encode where I used an AVISynth AVS script to resize the original 16x9 ratio to 4:3 and added the subs into the AVS script so they would "burn" into the image. I'm fine with this solution (as I would never want to watch this movie without the subs) but now I'm stuck with a 4:3 video instead of a 16x9 video.

So ...

Now I am thinking I will re-encode the movie at 16x9 and use an authoring program that supports (Vobsub?) subtitle files but ... very few authoring programs seem to support subs and a LONG time ago I played around with Maestro (wihch does support subs) and I very nearly had a nervous breakdown using that program.

So now the hunt is on for an authoring program that supports subtitle files and is easy-to-use

Does anyone have some suggestions? Also can I use the subs as they are or will have have to somehow convert them to another format? If I do have to convert what program should I use and how do I use it. Any links to guides would be helpfull but while I don't consider myself a newbie in the world of digital video I must admit I am a newbie when it comes to dealing with subtitles in the fashion I am seeking.

So any help would be greatly appreciated

P.S.
I own this DVD so if I need to RIP the subs again using a different program/method that is not a problem. However I'd rather not deal with the subtitle rippers that rip to some form of TXT file. Been there done that and it was not "fun" at all ... hehehe
