i'm new to most of this stuff. i burned some movies i made onto a dvd-r using idvd2. they were in .mov format. i was wondering how i could copy these back into the computer into an mpeg or avi format. i have a pc for different converting programs, but i only have a dvd drive on my imac.

I woudl suggest downloading the program and also visiting the recently renovated ffmpegx home page which has some great pictures and explanations of each of the options avaliable on the program.
Here's the webpage
http://homepage.mac.com/major4/
Likewise, if you look on the left portion of the page, you can find
VIDEO_TS to DivX link which will explain step by step what you need to do for VIDEO_TS (which is DVDr to avi (divx)
enjoy
