  1. i'm new to most of this stuff. i burned some movies i made onto a dvd-r using idvd2. they were in .mov format. i was wondering how i could copy these back into the computer into an mpeg or avi format. i have a pc for different converting programs, but i only have a dvd drive on my imac.

    well your options are endless really. One application you should get is ffmpegx. Since you said "I have a pc for differnet converting programs" but your dvd drive is on yoru iMac its best to stay in the computer your data will be on. There is nothing fancy or PC only apps needed to do what you need to do.

    With ffmpegx, you can simply select your .vob files individually and convert them into the two options you want (mpeg and .avi)

    I woudl suggest downloading the program and also visiting the recently renovated ffmpegx home page which has some great pictures and explanations of each of the options avaliable on the program.

    Likewise, if you look on the left portion of the page, you can find
    VIDEO_TS to DivX link which will explain step by step what you need to do for VIDEO_TS (which is DVDr to avi (divx)
