DVDLab almost assuredly "undoes" some of the header work that SVCD2DVDMPG+ does.

Others will be able to answer you in greater detail.

    A valid concern you have.

    I asked a similar question here: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=161295.

I beleive we need to verify the major AUTHORING programs to see which ones support the SDE header patch for our Pioneers.

    1. DVD Maestro

    2. Ulead Movie Factory 2

    3. DVDLab

    4. TMPGEnc DVD Author

Maybe we need a "POST" patch fix that works on the .VOB files if some of these authoring programs are stripping off the information.

I think Chrissyboy started doing that in another thread already. Give it a look.

Edit: That's just for the general header manipulation, not the Pioneer fix manipulation... which SHOULDN'T be affected but obviously sometimes is.

According to Chrissyboy, "SDE referes to sequence display extensions and is done to attempt to fix the way Pioneer DVD players decode a MPEG stream."

I said, "SDE header patch for our Pioneers". Maybe I shouldn't have said "SDE header" just "SDE" but it is the Pioneer fix

Yes you can find it all here:

We are all on the same page, just reading the text a little different

I think the answer to the original post lies in how you author in DVDLab. When working with the Pan & Scan fix you must produce a 16:9 DVD. By default DVDLab gives you 4:3
    SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

A very good point. 8) Maybe you need to put this information in BOLD in your FAQ or added to your Settings list for different authoring software

    Keep up the great work....

no - if you click on the "glasses" icon on the assets bin it gives you a visual reprsentation of the mpeg file.... very useful IMHO should be released as a seperate freeware applet.......

  13. I've just finished converting a PAL SVCD to NTSC (edited by ChrissyBoy). Unfortunately, it won't play correctly on my Pioneer standalone. Looks and sounds great on my PC and on a friend's Sony.

I followed the guide at http://www.geocities.com/xesdeeni2001/StandardsConversion/

I used IFOEdit 0.95 to author using the 5.1 .ac3 stream created from DVD2AVI. From what I've read Pioneers have a problem with their use of the MPEG2 sequence display extensions. How do I view the MPEG stream to verify if the extensions are present? How do I fix this problem?

The easiest way is to fire up DVDLab import the mpg, let it demux. Then click on the "glasses" icon over the asset bin - this will give you a visual view of the mpeg structure. Just check for sequence display extensions....

    Nost,

I live in NTSC land and have a Pioneer DV-525. I found that I have two choices, leave them as PAL SVCD's and they will play on the Pioneer or convert them to DVD's using TMPGEnc if you want to share them with friends who DVD players do not support SVCD.

Using SVCD2DVDMPG+ is not an option when your hardware only supports NTSC and you have a PAL SVCD.

    Joepic:

Untrue! I have made a SVCD-DVD that is playable on my Pioneer DV-525 using SVCD2DVDMPG+, but I had to have it create elementary streams and then reauthor it using Maestro or something similar... and it took some futzing with the headers.

    Joepick,
Both the input and output of my processing was a DVD not an SVCD. Many Pioneer players do indeed convert PAL SVCDs to NTSC on the fly, too bad the same ins't tru for DVDs :\

You can indeed convert the PAL SVCDs to NTSC first using TMPGenc and then apply SVCD2DVDMPEG+ to author a NTSC DVD.
