I am! I like to watch anime. I got lots of them. Anyone here work with anime? I like Intial D, Flame of Recca, Trigun and etc. Anime is really cool!

I'm a fan, but I'm too cheap to spend money on those overpriced DVDs. I just watch whatever Cartoon Network shows. I would just buy the Japanese imports, but they're more expensive than the ones produced in America. It doesn't make any sense that something that is edited and subbed is cheaper than the original product.

Yeah i love anime i watch dbz, neon genesis evangelion, El- Hazard, Record of lodos war etc I have allot of dragonball z dvd and neon genesis dvds

but god damm! there so expensive on dvd and my choice is limited here in the UK

I have a fair amount of stuff (very little currently legal im sorry to say, but *some* WAS actual moneypaid), inc a few complete series (mainly stuff i like but cant afford for a couple years, or old old cartoons that cannot be bought any more), and almost the complete run of studio ghibli ("of course" - with the rules bent just a little to all Lupin III and Nausicaa in)

But you wouldnt catch me dead at a con, making half assed doujinshi, or cosplaying. It's hard work (no really), but I manage to resist the temptation of making a complete ass of myself through such activities

Well, I once dressed up as Esteban-cum-"A pirate" for halloween, and wore a badge saying "I am optimus prime!" but that's about it.

"Current" things... hum... Trigun, Love Hina, Cowboy Bebop all pretty good but getting long in the tooth. DBZ is good up til about the fourth or fifth week and then wanes -rapidly-. Slayers I don't care much for (and is olllllld). Got some odd slayers-in-space thing called Lost Universe thats a bit more interesting Nadia of Blue Water is cool but even older. And was recently shown the first couple eps of Evangelion and can already feel the DEEP radiating from it. (again, old.. guess i need some catch up lessons). Metropolis is pretty but a bit empty, like the matrix.
Gundam Wing is also pretty cool, in a saturday morning kind of way, and the first couple series of Pokemon are fun.
the .hack variations and FLCL bust my noggin...
Kenshin looks neat, but needs time devoted to watch it.
Of course, I have the complete runs of Cities of Gold and Ulysses 31 And would like to branch out into other classic series like that.

(no, i didnt really like GotFF or StCnKkk, at least not anywhere near as much as everyone told me i would... guess im just not high minded enough, too childish - and not totally brainwashed that everything a studio does is gold! still, i'll take a spirited away over a raft of pinocchio 2s and jungle book 2s any day. whisper of the heart, ocean waves, pompoko, neko n.o, yamadas, koro, conan, horus etc pending discovery and watching, possibility of a high mark for at least some of them.)

And the most important bit?
"I'm a dubs man".

Sorry, but so long as it doesnt end up in teeth-grating, i'd rather watch a film in english with *at least* as good lipsync as the original, instead of be distracted by lots of little words. Though it's a good way to learn a language.. (only notable casualty so far, save warriors of the wind, is Cowboy Bebop.. technically perfect, but just lost all the atmos in english. "The Guyver" is piss poor in BOTH languages..)

To threadjack: How did people get a start in this stuff, and whats good to carry on with these days? Some kind of one line description would be good, even if it's just a genre-alisation.

(start: a passed-around copy of one of the UKs only-ever two even vaguely shonen jump style mags, manga mania, in class. got own copy soon after. pretty pissed when the newsagents stopped carrying it, but was well on the way by then... a few (pretty crappy!) videos, various somewhat tacky but still-gripping movies on SciFi channel, and all that great quality comicstrip material, it was quite a hook.)

Would like to see: several things i head of but never got to; Ranma (in private!), U.Y., Mermaids scar (whatever..), Ran, Honneamise, Baghi, and whatever new stuff is good ^_^

I love anime, but I've become such a purist with it that I only like the original japanese language with english subs. The american voice actors never seem to get the same intonation and emphasis as the japanese voice actors do. I think that you loose a lot in the english dubs.

lso, if you've never seen the uncut Dragonball/DragonballZ/DragonballGT in japanese, then you're missing out on a whole new world. None of the english dubs do them justice.

Most of my favorites, like DB sagas are older stuff like Bubblegum Crisis, the AD Police OVA, Tenchi, Ah! My Goddess, Vampire Hunter D, Wicked City.
All of those I have on Laserdisc(except DBZ-VCD), so that goes to show the age of those series/movies.
There are tons more that I like, but I don't want to bore anyone with my taste in anime. The list would be quite long.

Same here, I'm a fan depending on what it is. Like Ghost in the shell, Lodos war, Eva, and others. Actually my latest purchase bring back many childhood memories. I've started buying Starblazers.

Dubs have gotten a lot better, in the past two years. I like the voices for Inuyasha, Cowboy Bebop, and Lupin the Third. I still don't care for the dubbed version of Dragonball, though. It's bearable, but loses a lot going from Japanese to English.
