finally got the CPU down to a respectable idle 45C with new heatsink fan (arctic cooler freezer 7 pro). and was wondering in the bios should Q Fan control be enabled and CPU Max set to say 70C? what exactly does this do? does it say hit 70C then the fan works harder to cool it and keep it at that max? or will the PC shutdown once it reaches that temp? i dont mind the noise if thats the only drawback to having Q Fan enabled.
reason im asking is because i was having CPU overheat issue where the temp would read 90-100C! finally after replacing 2 heatsinks (intel stock and arctic cooler 7) this one has brought the temps back down to what i think is normal for this P4 3.4 MHz Prescott.

there are a bunch of different q fan bios. yours may be the one with min med max settings? is so they were the temps that set the speed of the fan as in when it hits 70c the fan would be set to max rpm. shutdown temp is usually in a different section of the bios.
