Any ideas what would cause lines like these to show up in my scans? Just started happening recently, and it's buggin' the F outta me. Driver issue maybe? Bad parallel plug? Time to buy a new scanner (God I hope not; can't afford it now)?

I had an older HP scanner that would do this. Every time I wanted to use the scanner I had to restart the computer, then scan, and those lines wouldn't be there.

HP said it's driver wasn't 100% XP compatible. When I told them I was using 98SE, they suggested I upgrade to XP.

    I upgraded to Canon.

I'd check both your scanner cord, and for driver updates. What's the make/model of scanner. Maybe someone has experience with it.

    What,
I think you can safely assume your scanner is busted. I assume you mean the yellow green stripes? I think you have lost the Red diodes or whatever they may be called in the CCD, or, I think CSI, which one of my scanners had. It lost a few totally, and made black stripes, although much thinner, the length of the scan.
If the scanner is still under warranty, make a claim. If it's not, and it isn't a really expensive one ( my first was over 350, I consider that expensive ), then replace it. You get better (higher) resolution in a pretty cheap device, today, much better than just a short while ago. My Visioneer is better than the Canon I bought for my daughter just 2 years ago, and half the price. I am looking to get an even better one shortly, and know it will cost even less. Generally, they are comoditized.

    Typical tech support.
