I have searched the how-to's and couldnt quite find an answer to where I am now. I took two XVID avi's and used tmpgenc plus to convert them to mpg. I have a good mpeg with 48000 audio, but:
Video : 0.0 B, 1150 Kbps, 30.0 fps, 720*288 (16:9), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD), Supported
&
Video : 0.0 B, 1150 Kbps, 30.0 fps, 720*320 (16:9), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD), Supported
When i play them in DVD player they freej out. The true SVCD conversion works great.
So my question is what can I do to these two mpegs to get them right on framerate and size? Or do I have to go back to the avi's and redo.
Thanks for any help.

You'll have to redo from the source material.
First, the framerate is wrong. It should be 29.97fps for NTSC, not 30fps. Then there's the resolution. DVD players are forgiving with horizontal resolution, but vertical resolution must always be 480 (or 240). -
In settings->advanced->clip frame-> you have three buttons. The "Arrange setting" button contains settings for aspect ratio. The "Clip frame" button adjusts the mask. The third button is mask color. Arrange your settings and encode a few minutes of the movie to see if it comes out right. In settings->video you adjust the framerate.

The one video that plays right has the right aspect ration for DVD and a fps of (video codec says) 25 fps. Is that one PAL. Guess my question is can I have a 29.97 fps and a 25 fps on the same DVD. Thanks again.
