  1. Hi. I haven't been here in quite a while as I haven't been making any movies. I got a new comp and have reinstalled many of my programs. I have downladed the latest version of CladDVD XP and I have version 2.5 of TMPGEnc.

I used clad to rip a movie (I see that it now creates one large .vob) and frameserved to create the .d2v and .wav. When I try to load the .d2v into tmpg it says it "can not open, or is unsupported". What is wrong? Is there something in the options or environmental settings I am missing? Does this version of Clad not work with tmpg. Do I need some sort of codec?

I feel quite silly for asking this as I used to be very good at making XVCD's and now I cannot even get started .
Thanks for any help you can give.

    Scott,
I can't sleep tonight so am answering everything.
Have you ever tried DVDx 2.2? VCD and SVCD, both (X) if you want. When I used it, I set the bitrate to fill 2 or 3 disks. Depending on movie length, I might be able to go to 2000 kbps for XVCD, to fill the 2nd or 3rd disk. The result was very good, but no control, as you have in the esoteric other progs available here. However, they all played on my Apex, and all but 1 other machine I tried them on.
It's an option. About 3 hours to a 2 hour movie for VCD, 5 hours for a 2 hour movie, SVCD. And, I think the output is almost as good as CCE or TMPGenc, in half the time or less.

  3. Can nobody help? Did I phrase the Q wrong? Is anyone even making XVCD anymore?

    Scott,
Yes, some of us are making XVCDs, that's why I mentioned DVDx 2.2.
It is an all in one that will rip your DVD and reencode to VCD, XVCD, SVCD, XSVCD, at the bitrate you set it for.
I set the bitrate so that the size of completed movie equals 2 or 3, if needed, full 800 MB disks.
It does a fairly good job in the times I specified above.
I have tried the other things, and apart from TMPGenc and CCE in DVD2SVCD, can't make heads nor tails of them..
Also, DVDx will rip straight from the DVD, using a RAM buffer to save wear and tear on your DVD ROM.
Thus, it doesn't make a folder full of files, 10 to 15 gigs of them, most of which you will delete, anyway.
Or, you can rip to the HDD, and it may run a little more quickly, as it doesn't pause to refill the RAM buffer.
If this doesn't answer your ? at least partially, I don't understand the ?

  5. The question was about getting the specified programs to work. I thank you for your recommendation but I wanted to stick with my combo.

Thankfully I have solved my problem. Since I reinstalled I guess I did not have the right DVD software to authenticate the DVD (not even win media player could play a DVD).

Love my new computer. I can now do a 1h30min movie in tmpg in 4h. This is 2pass VBR XVCD. Used to take all night on my old one.

    Thanks for trying to help

    Scott,
No problem. I guess I didn't understand the question, after all.
The only way I use TMPGenc is inDVD2SVCD, or CCE.
The only ripper I use is Smartripper,as the one time I tried Clad, as you said, it made 1 huge m2v and something else, I forget, which I was too dumb to use.
Have to check your comp stats to see what you have as the new one. I kinda like my 2000XP CPU rig.

  7. I got a XP2400+ running on a Abit NF7-S v2.0 nforce2 mobo with 2x256 OCZ EL RAM. I currently have the CPU OC'ed to 191FSP with a 10.5 multiplier. When I get a better PSU it is going higher. She really screams through TMPG now, not to mention games .

    Scott,
I guess I don't understand your answer, either. You mean a 2400 on a FSBuss of 191?? And what is OCZ EL RAM? And how the hell are you cooling that thing?
I don't know if my Gigabyte will allow me to bump the clock in single digit increments. I'm no longer into o'clocking, per se.
What's it mean, really screams? Really, the only way to compare the speed of an encode would be to use the same DVD, same settings, etc. I know that most of the DVDs I have worked with take approximately X hours to complete, and that is one hell of a lot longer time than most of the times reported here.

  9. Sorry for the confusion, I meant FSB (front side bus).
I was just stating my specs so don't worry about it. I am used to being over at www.nforcershq.com where everybody has their comp OC'ed.

OCZ EL Ram is just a brand of higher performance memory.

What I mostly mean by "really screams" is just that it is way faster then my old comp (I had a 1.2 Duron). Although I have also got quite a bit of extra speed since I overclocked. Used to take me ~12 hours to encode with tmpg (on old comp) and now it takes ~4 1/2 hours! I'm happy

Since I got my new mobo I have really got into overclocking. My overclock is nothing, I'm still working on it. If you want to see some OC'ing go check out the website I mentioned. Some guys have AMD XP1700+'s running at 2.4GHz.

  10. I think i have your problem solved scott. reinstall the VFAPI codec reader (Included with Nimo) and under environmental settings, set "TMPGEnc VFAPI project reader" to one or higher. Make sure you have the "TMPGENC.vfp" file in the same directory as TMPGEnc.
