  1. When I render and/or convert, which field order should I start with, A or B? I use Ulead Media studio 7 and/or Ulead VideoStudio 7 to edit and render to NTSC DVD format. It gives me the option of which field order to start with, I have been using "A". I capture my DV to Ulead VS7 then usaully edit and render with MS7.

Also when I convert the rendered DVD video file to NTSC VCD format in TMPGenc it again gives me the field order option. I have been agian using "A".

What field order should I choose any why? Does it matter?

I watch the VCD's on a regular NTSC TV and the same for when I get a DVD burner.

  2. 95% of the time it's field A with DVD. I usually use the TMPGenc wizard to tell me which field just in case it's B. I just open the wizard and close it afterwards.

  3. When I render DVD with Ulead MS7 the defualt is field "A". Then when I convert to VCD with TMPGenc, the defualt goes to field "B". I change the TMPGenc to "A" to match the DVD rendered video. Is that right way to do it? Keep all conversion consistant with the same starting field?

I read in the glossary on this site that if the wrong field order is used then video could have flickering. But it doesn't mention how to correctly choose the correct field order before rendering and/or converting.

  4. I use field order A(odd) 100% of the time.In TMPGEnc and MPEG-1 if you use the wizard it will default to A but the normal GUI will default to B.MPEG-2 is the reverse...very strange.
    Here's a simple guide:http://www3.telus.net/dvd/mpeg/svcd/encoding_video.htm

  5. I've always used "A" and never had any flickering. So I guess I will stick with it and not wonder about it anymore. Seems like "A" is the norm.
