Every time I compress a DV AVI file for DVD with the last 3 versions of TMPGenc the audio gets terrably out of sync if I choose MP2 48KHz audio.

If I comperss only the video and use WAV sound @ 44KHz, it seems fine.

    i.e.
on a 2 hour ~25gig avi file, I comperss to 720x480 5850-VBR 224-MP2 by the end of the movie the sound is 15 to 20 seconds ahead of the video...

    what am I doing wrong?

  2. virtual dub is very good frequency converter. u can frame serve the audio from virtual dub, fast and always in sync. 44 to 48, 48 to 44 no problem

  4. An alternate way to encode your MP2 audio is to use TOOLAME with TMPGEnc . Follow the instructions on how to set it up in the external encoder option in TMPG, listed in this forum. Once done it need never be changed again.

Most people don't like the audio encoder in TMPG and use other methods to circumvent its shortcomings.

Perhaps you would like to try a 3rd alternative & use a AC3 encoder like BeSweet to change your raw PCM audio to Dolby Digital (AC3). This would be 100% DVD compliant as well. Try one of the guides here at the site.

Often, sync problems are related to capture problems, so the problem may not go away. Hardware is often at fault.

I use the CANOPUS ADVC100, & never have a problem.
