  1. Hi
I'm currently having problems burning a film to DVD. Its been converted (TMPGenc) and then authored using MF2. The files have then been checked on the computer which are ok. I follow the guide for using Insatnt cd/dvd and the disc is unrecognized on my DVD player. i know my DVD player accepts these discs so its not that.
I have noticed that the added files (vobs and bups) are as: eg VTS_01_0.BUP, however the IFO files don't have .IFO on the end although it does say its an IFO file. Would this cause a problem?
f so would i have to use ifoedit? If so could you give me details or show me how to do this
    Thanks

  2. sooooooo? Does nobody know. The only reason i'm asking because in the instant cd/dvd guide it says "only enter the files with VOB, BUP or IFO after them". if this was so I wouldn't have an IFO file.
Does the person that wrote the guide know???
Please i need a bit of help

  3. I'm assuming you ARE creating a DVD and not trying to burn mpeg video files to a DVD.

A BUP file is a "backup" of the IFO file. You need to make sure that all your IFO files have an associated BUP file. All DVD files must have a file extension of IFO, BUP or VOB.

Did you verify that your DVD image plays in your computer's software DVD player? Do this for the DVD image i.e all the files in the VIDEO_TS folder. If this doesn't work you have a problem in the way you're authoring.

If you can play the DVD image files on your computer, make sure that you tell your burning software that it is actually writing a DVD and not a DVD-ROM image. This should be in the help for the software you're using.

That's all I can say based on what you've supplied.

    Good luck!

  4. Thanks for replying

I have created mpeg2 files from avi files by converting and then used Moviefactory 2 to author. I have checked the video_ts file and the movie plays great through my computer. I do this before burning all films to save me the problem of getting another spare coaster! useinf power DVD
I've also checked to see if the IFO files have a BUP backup, they have and I have 4 vob files too.

I think the problem lies within the burning software, but i have followed the Instant CD/DVD guide (https://www.videohelp.com/instantdvd.htm) and told the software to make a "UDF video DVD".
    I'm obviously doing something wrong

  5. If you've been burning DVDs before then you must have DVD burning software that works. You need to figure out what has changed since you last had a sucessful burn.

Does the disc play correctly in your computer?

    Some final thoughts:
    1) Try using some other DVD burning software such as nero or recordnow max or whatever software you've been using in the past.
    2) Buy a DVD+RW or DVD-RW for testing your burns - it saves burning coasters.

  6. I did use the moviefactory 2 to burn and author all in one, but lately its not burning the last part of the film saying there was a generic error. I may try restoring the program.
i'll try the other programs and see what happens. With record max do you go to the make an exact copy? If so do I just add all the vob's, bup, ifo's with the audio file?
I purchased my dvd writer before really studying the subject much. I have been kicking myself for 2 months due to my writer not being a DVD-RW! ...... BUGGER
