  1. Hey, Anyone know where I can get 30 minutes long dvd movies that have been recently produced. Would be great to use it for practicing on how to rip and which settings work best.

  2. 30 mins ? You're probably talking samplers or demo discs from magazines if you're after such short material.

In fact, most magazines pushing out 30 minutes of material would probably use VideoCD's, so you can probably rule that out too.

The shortest DVD I've found recently (I nearly said "come across", but you'll see why I changed my mind in a moment) was the bonus disc for the special edition of Shakira's (told you) Laundry Service album, which had a music video and making of feature on it.

What settings are there to try ? The procedure will be the same for a single layer DVD-5, why not experiment with one of those ? A lot of budget or straight to video releases are DVD-5 since they often contain just the film and maybe a trailer or other such promo.

    HTH.

  3. Well that was just an idea that came across my head. Like to find the best quality of ripping from dvd to svcd/vcd or divx without waiting 6 hours to re-encode a 2hour movie for it. Maybe I should just select certain sections of a vob file to rip.

I bought a Fruits Basket (and Dragonball GT) demo disc for $2. It was mainly interviews with some voice actors, that's why I bought it.

It was a pressed DVD, the video was in the firstplay so you could not fast-forward, and about 20 minutes long.

Mine was from a video store, but I know they are available at comic stores and other stores that carry anime.

And the voice actors were pretty cute. I need to switch business. My office has too many whiny hags. <- See now THIS is why I refuse to talk about where I work. -> Plus my wife would be pissed (as I look over my shoulder).

Mainly you're looking for demos. Find some online, though I'm not sure where to tell you. They give out free junk all the time online.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

  5. Why don't you only use a few vob's of a dvd and work on them ?

Get the Tool "Salival" DVD. It's very short (~25 mins) and has some nice menu trickery that you can play with and learn. And it is not copy protected! No CSS and region free. So that's even more experimental freedom you will have.

You also, of course, get the videos for Stinkfist, Aenema, Sober, Prison Sex, and one other (I think it was Part Of Me) that was hidden.
