  1. I want to convert "The Sound of Music" 174 minute movie to 700mb avi. I know there will be some quality loss, but I can
accept that. I plan to rip the DVD Main Movie to hard drive. I expect that will result in a file about 6GB. Here is my question: Can I use Fair Use Wizard on the 6GB iso, or should I first use DVD Rebuilder and convert the 6GB DVD to 4.7GB DVD and then use Fair Use Wizard?

Can I nominate this for understatement of the year so far ?

Keep the resolution fairly low, or the image quality will be awful.

What are you going to watch this back on ?

  4. Plan to watch on big screen TV. Lower the resolution (not sure how to do that) makes it more blurry. Keep the default resolution that Fair Use Wizard produces, more artifacts. I don't really care (blurry or artifacts). Big screen TV is connected to computer with cd drive only. Two disks is too much hassle. No USB. China.

Yeah, getting up off the couch once every 90 minutes is a drag.

  6. Somebody else will be showing this movie. That person has limited ability to change the disks and start the media player.

And this player won't play files from a DVD ?

  8. He said the computer only has a CD drive.

I can't say I'd look forward much to watching a major movie on a nice big screen TV set when the nearly 3 hour movie has been compressed down to 700MB. It kind of defeats the purpose of having a nice TV to begin with, in my opinion.

    Missed that bit.

Would a computer with no USB drive and only a CD drive be new enough, and therefore powerful enough, to play back Divx/Xvid encoded material ?
